Hello Everyone :D !!!

Ok so, this will be my first full-suit build. I will be making and ODST out of EVA foam. I have never done this before so this should be a fun and interesting experience. And if all goes well with this build I‘ll be making a weapon for the suit and maybe even a Scout full suit as well after that (with some modifications to it of course :) )

So my plan is to make a full suit out of EVA foam and craft foam. I’m going with foam because it is cost effective and is not as toxic as mixing bondo for pepakura. I have made many pepakura helmets in the past, but I have never done any work with bondo. So this is a little more comfortable :) “and if I do mess up it won’t bite me in the butt”. Also with my schedual this will be a slow moving build. I’m going to try and fit this in with school, work, and a social life. So please forgive me if it take a while to update.

So I’m going to try and make this as easy and understandable as possible for everyone, by going into as much detail as possible. Please ask any and all question, suggestions, or anthing you would like to say. The design is from Andre cook DaFrontlineTrooper and I will post links if anyone would like you use the build as well.

And without further ado

First materials:

>>EVA Foam – I got this from we sell mats -http://www.wesellmats.com/foam-floor-mats/premium-eva-foam-mats/premium-colored-foam-mats/large-half-inch-interlocking-foam-mats.html good prices and they ship all over
>>Craft Foam white – I got this guy from a place in Canada called Michel’s (craft/hobby store)
>>Hot glue gun (with glue) – you can get this cheap online or at any craft shop
>>Heat gun – you can get this online or from any hard ware store
>>Craft knife I got this guy from a place in Canada called Michel’s (craft/hobby store)
>>Paint – you can get this from any hard ware store
>>Velcro strap – you can get this from any hard ware store
>>Buckles - you can get this from any hard ware store

I’ll prob add more when the time comes.

Second the Design

Can't wait to see how it comes out. Are you going to foam build the helmet as well? I ordered mine from Sean bradley since I couldn't ever get the visor to look right.

Haven't decided yet, if the build goes well I may try to make the helmet.

This looks like it's going to be awesome! I keep seeing foam build and I just want to start one so badly! Can't wait to see the progress! will you be making a Halo 4 or from Halo Reach or Halo ODST?

I look forward to seeing this! I've been wanting to make an odst.

Thanks Aramoorn

**UPDATE**

Ok I'm back! Sorry for the large delay from the first post, I've been super busy with school and family but I finally managed to fine some time and start working on the shins !!!!!
Granted that it is only a little progress but progress all the same.

I sketched out the legs from DFT's blueprints by hand with a ruler pencil and protractor. I then used an Xacto knife to cut out all the pieces.
This is only a ROUGH cut. So far I need to see how they fit when I transfer the poster board to card board.

This is the template I used from DTF
Shin%20Armor.jpg

With the cut out templates I and going to cut out the shapes on card board and make a rough layout and see how it looks. when I'm happy with the fit I'll move to EVA !!!!
I hope to make at least 1 post per week with progress on the armor.

Until then see you soon and Keep Up the armor making !

I think that this will turn out great. but what would really make it look even cooler is if you add things like weathering, plasma damage, and even needler damage to make it look like it has seen better days

Good to see you back :)
Thanks Mstruvmgc, good to be back!

that were i get my stuff as well
Ya lots if not all the materials I use are easy to get a hold of.

All in do time my friend :)

**Update**

Only a small update because I'm ending my University Semester in this month so hopefully i can make some real progress soon but anywho

I used the stencils I made in the last post, and traced them onto a cardboard poster board and cut it out using a box cutter so see how it would look and shape up to my leg.

What I used to make this part of the build was:
Permanent marker
Box cutter
Hot glue gun

CB%20Shin.jpg

Some of the parts were a bit big so I trimmed them up a bit before cutting out the cardboard and it seems to come out pretty good. I do however have to shorten the length of the leg a bit, but besides that my next step will be to take it to EVA FOAM!!!!

PS cardboard is hard to bend into a curve lol

I've been thinking of doing my first build based on DFT's templates as well. I've been playing with EVA foam off and on for a few months, scratch builds of arm and chest pieces and evening carving out a flintlock with a dremel atm. My only issue with DFT's templates are the near absolute lack of measurements for any kind of reference to scale up or down from.

Everything except the black was hand painted... very carefully. The black is Plastidip. I am one of those weird engineers who are actually good at art. I'm just more of the look and draw type. believe it or not I have been accused of tracing before when my drawing and the one I was looking at were nowhere near the same size. I can also scale things pretty easily which made DFT's templates useful for me. But if you want to continue this conversation please PM me. I don't like hijacking people's threads for extended periods of time talking about things that aren't theirs.

As Shiroppi said "trace it with Illustrator" lol but I took the long way and watched his videos and kept stopping the video to see how long each line he made was. I also copied his blue prints of the shins and added the ROUGH measurements to it. Here is that picture if it helps anyone !

I used his templates for my ODST. Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you my fine sir. I shall :D

DFT's templates are amazing to work with I too have used his templates for my ODST Costume.

They make the job a lot easier that's for sure !!!

***UPDATE ***

So its been a wile ........... Sorry about that. I just finished my Uni course and now I finally have to time to play :D

So I only made a little progress but again progress all the same.

I used the stencil I made in post #6 and modified it a bit to my liking and then traced it onto the EVA foam and cut it out with a Box cutter.
I then took all the pieces I cut out and glued them together to make a decent shin. It is far from the best that I've seen but it's not the worst ether. I did have a few problems cutting out the foam ( finding the right time when to change the blade ) so I am going to try and take the problem areas I had and turn them into battle damage along the way.

For this part of the build I used the following:

EVA Foam
Box cutter - with many replacement blades
sharpy / Felt pen
Glue gun - with LOTS of glue sticks
Heat gun
