There's no real backstory to this armor, as I've seen many people do. Essentially, I'm taking primarily SPARTAN armor and throwing some ODST bits here and there, as well as a few personal touches. Essentially, I want to build a suit that appears suitable for extra-vehicular activity, but is still visibly badass. Without further ado, I give you my humble offering. Here's hoping it gets me shot out of the Noob forum!

Here's a closer look at the chest. I used Lex's RECON chest plate, both because I thought it fit the bill, and it looked simple enough for my first "large" project.

A side view. I don't have a backpack as of yet, but I'm working on it. Eventually, when I get it fiberglassed and sturdy, I'll rivet some D-rings in strategic places for the purpose of clipping gear to my suit to up the badassery at Con.

The helmet. I don't know if I'll use this one, but I decided Kirrou's ODST tester simply didn't look good enough to wear at Con. It's what I get for being lazy, I suppose. I intend to finish it, regardless of whether I use it. It just doesn't seem right to leave the Chief out of my collection.

The back will most likely be a MkVI backpack, but ya never know. I don't think an ODST back would look great with it. I do, however, plan to add ODST kidney plates.

If you are trying to get an even cross between ODST and Spartan, i would go with Spartan back. But if you plan to favor ODST, then go ahead friend.

On the side, here's an ODST chestplate. I think it may be just a little bit too small, but I'm not sure how it'll look with the rest of the ODST gear.

If I had the Pepakura Designer software, I'd scale it up a bit. Please don't think me too cheap or lazy to 'chew my own bones'; I'm 17 years old, and my folks are incredibly paranoid about buying things over the "interwebs".

You can download pep designer and use it for free, you just can not save and export. Also, the ODST plates look small because they have a lot of other gear that attaches around the chest and stomach.

I would say if you use the ODST chest plat, you could use the MK VI or ODST back, but if you use the recon, stick with the MK VI. I also recommend HUgh Holder's stuff in the 3d modeling section if you want to use ODST.

Looking good, I wish you luck.

awesome job man =D very nice clean pep work
good job and keep up the great work =D and good luck

Thanks for clearing that up!

The question remains, though: Does anyone think this is too small a chestplate?

The chest plate looks ok for sizing, do you plan to add the lower parts of the ODST chest because they will fill in the big space your seeing below the chest piece. your best bet is to look at others ODST builds and check out how their chest pieces look when they have it on and compare yours to theirs and that will give you an idea if its sized right or not

It looks about an inch to small on the width. It should cover from arm pit to arm pit. However, it could be how the picture is taken. Because when you try and take a picture and one arm is extended out to hold the camera, it may be causing the distance to be greater than if your arms were at your sides. With that said, I'm going to second what Jimmy Da Moose suggested and recommend the Hugh ODST chest plate. I believe the version you are using is the Nightshade file (I might be wrong, sorry), but I personally feel the Hughs files are a tad bit more accurate. Anyways, Good luck!

Small update: Bigger chestplate! I downloaded the Designer program, increased the height to about eight inches, and gave the little one to a smaller would-be ODST.

I know it looks a tad warped up top, but that's been fixed.

And now for something completely different! [Sorry for the double post]
I began my career in knifemaking tonight. I haven't thrown an edge onto this little number yet, but it looks purty so far.
She began life as a simple woodworker's rasp, like this one here:

After blasting it with a propane torch till my eyebrows started smoldering, I let it cool outside, then set to work grinding off the teeth, shaping the handle, and cutting out the tip shape- By hand, with a hacksaw and a handful of old files. These are the results yielded:

When I get this thing cleaned up, it'll be a Christmas present. Y'see, I know this girl who likes pointy things....
