A WETA is a giant cricket looking bug that's native to New Zeland, it is also the name of Peter Jackson's Physical and Digital Effects Division of his film company, they've been doing Special Effects for about 15 years And they are so far best know for LOTR's.

WETA also did all the work on "The Arms race" Halo shorts and specials

YIp, they're pretty scary, the one on the picture is just a baby, it hasnt grown its poison gland yet so its safe to handle. They are the largest insects in the world and have been around since before dinosaurs, some can grow to the size of a large house cat. It hasn't happened since the 70's but, there have been cases of them taking new born babies in the night, thats why in New Zealand, nobody lives near caves.

ODST FTW!!! great to see this project. I can has my Chest armor now!! WOOT!! Chest looks great. Im already glassing my shoulders so ill stick with them but i am sure as heck making that chest plate! Great work.

I just got the first piece of my Arms Race ODST yesterday so I'll be on the lookout for some pep files of the armor in a few months

wait, where did you get Weta ODST armor? I contacted them and they made it sound like they werent going to do anything with it except torture us with it and keep it for themselves.

So here's an update so far. I did the hip/butt plates, thigh plates and the gauntlets today at work since it was dead for me. I again took a few design liberties with the thigh/hip plates as these to me, are the most obscured parts of the armor (minus the back of course). I also notice the ODST's had different version of the thigh/hip plates on XD The gauntlet's need a lot more work and tweaking, it's hard to get the proportions correct sometimes and some of the subtle shapes are doing this to me

I'm also happy to say NZ-TK is also contributing to the ODST effort So this couldn't be done without him I'll be able to double check the areas I've already worked on So the lower res versions are coming along well

Sidenote: The "ODST Knife" is called the Kershaw Responder. A few people have mentioned it in other thread, though I figured why not mention it again here.

That's exactly what they'll do... the keeping it part, not the torture
The piece of my armor I'm referring to is the Kershaw Responder knife (pics in my Recon thread) I don't have any of the screen used pieces
