PLA 3d Printing

I want to start my printing and cosplay life, I just have a question about PLA. What color should it be? Should it be white as a nice base color or a color closer to my end project? If I want to paint that plastic a lighter color is that possible?

mostly it doesnt matter because youll need to sand and prime it before painting anyway but i always use black or grey if theyre available, next choice is closest to the final color.
