Possible Future Source For Making Realistic Visor Hud

One of the first things I've always done since I was younger when handling a helmet replica, has always been looking inside, for the hopes of seeing "what's going on in there." Naturally, thats something I hope to do with an MC helmet in the future. I initially had found walking through the Hardrock Casino that some of the machines were using very cool LCD tech, which I was searching for now.

However, I've only heard of this mentioned briefy awhile back, I've come across a vid of this. It's the OLED. Although not entirely available yet, I can foresee this becoming pretty popular in the future. The flexibility of the plastics made can be used to form the inner curve of a helmet visor, and the point that makes it even more remarkable, it dosn't require it's own light source, and creates everything itself. I see ALOT of potential for this tech in the Halo prop world.

Someone with good enough computer programing skills could produce game-accurate HUD displays, even little things, like when you turn it on, the "flash" of the grids appear and dissappear. Or you can even display a target reticle that can be tracked with a motion sensor to your AR prop.

Can't wait to see this stuff made to the public.

That's really neat! I'm sure they will be used for propmaking, as well as other purposes. I found a website Herethat sells them. If only my budget were higher and I knew more about these things and how to wire them, I would give it a try. Perhaps someone else will look into it.

That'd be cool for like a daft punk type. Also, lets be realistic here, do we really need a hud when no one else is gonna see it and when it's on a costume?

Yes.

Lol sorry. I do agree with you here, it is kind of pointless. BUT, there could be uses for it as well. Maybe not an ammo counter, or targeting reticule, but how about a compass or a clock? Or even a thermostat to tell you how hot it is in your helmet? I would love for that kind of info to be displayed on my HUD.

Well maybe if they were cheap enough the type of hud you could have would be like battery life, temperature, clock, etc.

Na, I think it's only as useless if you make it that way. Granted, no one but the wearer would see it, but it'd be a hell of a thing just to have IMO. I imagine if it gets out there more, you'd be able to utilize it for other things, maybe even attaching a hard drive and processing system like windows. The screen could pretty much display whatever you want, assuming it's wired correctly.

You could wire it up to a netbook... But you'd really have no way to control it, unless you sat down with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Thats true, but I'd probably make sure that whatever programs you do need for "trooping," that you'd only need to power it on or just make it click-only. IDK, make it so you wouldn't need to use a keyboard while wearing it, but I imagine that you can mod it so that you could

This would be great for people who want to make displays for mass effect guns

My link for what i mean

LOOK AT HUMAN WHO HAS oled THAT'S BLUE FOR WHAT I MEAN.

THE BLUE ON THE HUMAN'S (SHEPARD'S) GUN IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT

you could also use this to create a holo projector knockoff, just have a single sheet of this stuff standing up in a halo holo projector model and have it play an animation of cortana or Sarina or any other ai, not 3d but from the front and back who cares, close enough for me.

having an AI animation like that would be incredible.

im going to look more into this... maybe have two flat sheets against each other and have one play the back and one play the front of the AI character so from front and back you see the front and back and can have the character turn a bit more realistically.
