Salem Ao2 Airsoft Mask

Yo, Baxter.
I like where you are going with this, AO2 has always been one of my favorite tactical armor schemes. I gotta be honest with you though, I would NOT use a bondo'd mask for airsoft. If you're going to use you own handy work as a safety device (not that I'm recommending that you do, unless you are 100,000,0000% sure its gonna hold up) I would highly recommend molding that thing and recasting it in some THICK urethane resin (like 3/8 or 1/4 inch thick.)

I have the Cactus Hobby Salem mask and I have to tell you it is THE best purchase I have made for airsoft. I have gone through ESS turbofan goggles, JT paintball masks, Wiley X wrap-around glasses, literally hundreds of dollars worth of eye protection. I got rid of all of them when I bought my Cactus Hobby mask. This thing is solid, it is cast from fairly thick fiberglass with a smooth urethane face. The adds say the eye sockets are 22 guage wire mesh, but its really more like two metal plates with holes drilled through. Much more beefy and solid than wire mesh. The padding and harness are very comfortable and this thing HUGS your face. You can run and bounce and trip and fall and this thing does not budge. I originally tried molding a salem mask from clay and casting it to do basically what you are doing. It ended up costing more than the Cactus Hobby version and it was far less comfortable.

Its your project, and you're doing some great work there, but if you're gonna use this thing as a safety device I would suggest just saving up and buying either the scar painted mask or the all black one and paint it yourself. That's what I did and I think it turned out pretty well. Either way, best of luck on your project. Lookin good.

I too love the cactus hobby salem mask. I don't own it but someone on my team does and he let me borrow it for a round and I fell in love with it. But I've always loved the feeling when I've made something with my bare hands. thanks for the comment!

Sorry I pretty much let this thread die, but I haven't been able to find time to work on this for the time being due to school and everything(and the lack of funding) I also found out that the mask is a bit too small so I have to redo it. But don't worry, i haven't completely ditched this project, it's a creeping irritation in my head that I haven't been able to further it recently, but I will do it when I find enough time.

Can somebody post the link to the pepakura file for the mask?

also what do you plan on doing for the eye protection? are you going to hot glue some mesh over the eyes? how do you fasten the helmet to your head?
