OH HAI!
Thanks for coming to this thread as you probably are thinking "it can't be that bad", and to be honest it isn't, but I feel the need to put this problem forward for reasons I will tell further down...
I'm 16 from the UK so I still live with my parents (mum and stepdad actually) and in September I will be going back to school. I just got a job (today actually as I write this was the day I got it) so money shouldn't be a big problem. Anywho, I was talking to my mum yesterday and she asked me how my armour was coming (I had to show it off around the house lol) and I said I haven't started the proper version yet because I am not going to until I am experienced enough with pepakura and have all the stuff I need like the card, glue, spraypaint, fibreglass and resin. At that point she interrupted me saying how do you plan on having that done? I said I'll either do it in the garden here or at grandads. She says no its too much, just because you seen someone else do it who was probably an expert, it doesnt mean you will be able to. I said I'm 16 now and might be 17 and driving by the time I am ready to resin it so I can. She said well we'll just have to see because you can't resin in the garden then because the decking and patio will be done by then. I said OK I'll ask grandad can he help me do it because I want to use his gloves, goggles and mask anyway. The conversation topic changed (unheated btw, I do not condone being disrespectful to parents and I bet 405th doesnt) and in my mind I wondered... There is probably a large number of youths who still live with their parents/guardians on 405th, I wonder if anyone else has this problem and if they do are they too embarassed to put it online.
I made this thread to ask that question and for people to embarassed to ask:
Imagine/you are in this situation and you need to persuade your parents to (at whatever stage) let you finish/start/continue making your armour. What do you do?
Just do your armour against their wishes
Don't do the armour, their house, their rules
Do the armour secretly and if they find out stop
"" ""do the below
Try to persuade them to let you
If you would try to persuade them then please share your ideas on how to do this (eg bribery, explanation of glory, fandom, competitions, party costume, something to keep you occupied and out of trouble)
If you chose any other reasons please say why too
Also, say things like try to persuade (and how) but if they say no then do secretly and feel free to express what you think of this thread
Thanks for taking the time to read this, it was a large amount to digest but I hope that by doing this that I am helping someone with a similar problem but is too embarassed to ask for help.
