Spielberg To Produce Halo: Fall Of Reach?

I actually liked AI and Minority report. If he put that much TLC into the Halo movie, I'd be happy.

I want to do it damn it, but I'm 16. And deprived of damn near every human privilege.

And im skint. Welcome to the club :rolleyes .

If all of us put all of our money together, made a script, bought decent - very decent filming equipment (and the camera men, sound men to go with them), got places to film and quite a few people that can use decent editing software, along with the software of course, along with creating sets and costumes (no problem on that last part :p). Then we may be able to make an excellent halo film ourselves that would rival a hollywood release. I know Operation Chastity is on the go at the moment, and I have no doubt that it will be a great film. But I think that we can do better. We know how a Halo film should and shouldn't go. Operation Chastity will prove that. All hollywood is interested in is making money. Thats it. So I say, we go to microsoft and we get the rights to make the Halo movie the way it should be done.

Of course we will all have to be insane to do so, but im up for that.

I've thought a lot about this movie. If I were directing it, there would be no glimpse of his face, and no one would be bothered by it. I'd also make it bloody and would probably focus a tad more on the controversy of the concept of the spartan project. It'd HAVE to be a 3 hour movie.

All I can picture are Austin Powers-esque scenes where they try to cover John's face with objects and the like which to me, would become comical.

In fact, I would have it focus on the other Spartans or a completely different team (Grey Team anyone?) and have him maybe mentioned or a cameo...

Plus, it wouldn't exactly be too gory. Maybe alien gore, but plasma wounds would cauterize right?

Howz about shots from behind. No. Not in that context. All you see is the back of his head without his helmet on. Before he turns round he puts on his helmet. So there for we don't see his face.

You just can't mention him. You would need a cameo at least.

I can see it now, exactly how they would portray the wounds:

AAARRRGHHH! I just got shot with a plasma rifle man!

Dude you have a hole through you!

What? Where?

Right there man!

Oh! It's alright! It's cauterized! See!

Burns can be pretty grizzly. Also, John doesn't just kill the ODSTs in that ring, he BUTCHERS them. His fists broke bone, and from the descriptions in the book, could've punched THROUGH people. Also, this would be the FALL OF REACH. The human side loses, remember? In order to make the audience feel that, you can't glorify the victories. You have to focus on the defeats.

Also, I've seen video of a real lazer being shot at a dead pig. If I could find it, I'd post it. It ain't a site you'd forget I'll tell you that much. Showing it happening to a man's face even for a brief period would bump the movie up to R.

Which is what I want really. I don't want a mainstream popcorn flick, I want something that will make someone cringe, and cry, and question themselves, and cheer, and rave about it afterward.

Agreed. But there's no need to make it overly gory or tasteless. You can convey a sense of loss, defeat, and impending doom all without the use of excess violence.

Are you serious! The ET Remastered version seriously has Walkie-talkies in place of guns, or was that just an episode from South Park? I have only seen and own the original ET film.

And as for the Halo movie, why are some of us "bitching and complaining" (Words of my father) about Steven Spielberg possibly producing and maybe directing the Halo movie(s)? We should ALL be over joyed about the Halo movie even being picked up again. And all some of you can do is cry about it being made by a, what you guys who don't like the idea 100% are making it sound like a "Crappy director altogeather" may be doing the Halo movie(s).

Steven has done MANY great movies. Just to name a few, Jaws, ET, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers(Epic 10 epesode series), Indiana Jones (the 3 originals were GREAT), Jurassic Park, and MANY other great films. Sure Indy 4 was junk, but not all of the blaim should be placed on Steven. He didn't direct it.

Lets just wait, and see what happens. If we are luckey, the Halo movie will be made. If even more so luckey, the whole series (or Trilagy) of movies will be made Just be glad about it, and stop complaining about something that shouldn't be complained about.

EDIT: Just one more thing. I wouldn't worry about The rating. Even if its PG, It will have the standards of a film from 10 years ago being Rated 18A or 14A. If you watched Transformers 2, You will see that PLENTY of things that you never used to see in a PG movie were used in it. you have Megan Fox (atleast a PG-13 rating off the top), You see some girls panties (Im amaised They got that into there with a PG raiting) Drug use (Very well used, and VERY funny) "Pictures" of girls (You know what I mean) Swearing (Quote "What the "F"!") And many other things. Even in Canada (our ratings are 1 lower then the US ratings) It was supprising to see what they crammed into the film and got away with.

2 years ago, the rating of the film would be easily PG 13 or 14A, but the standards have lowered. Probably sooner or later, "R" movies will be PG 13.

Haha thats funny cuz I totally am thinking the opposite. Lol. More and more R movies are coming out with an occasional PG13 or G rated movie. But the other things you have said are spot on

Not excessive. Of course not.

But when there are brute shots and all sorts of different types of grenades being thrown back and forth there's no way in hell you aren't seeing someone go from standing to a fine gel. I've pretty much got an essay on this subject on another post, but that's not for here. What I want to say is, this is a war movie. A SCI FI war movie. I'll be damned if it holds back as much as the game does in the department of violence.

Hey, Spielberg isn't that bad and he'll only be producing. Could be Uwe Boll directing. Could be a Michael Bay "Hey look how small my penis is, I'll use explosions to compensate" production. And it can't always be James Cameron or Ridley Scott.

I mean, how hard can it be? To make it half decent, all you do is watch Saving Private Ryan and play one ore more of the three halo games. Then, you start directing and play more halo. I'm definitely looking forward to a Halo film.

At this moment, I hold some faith in Spielberg to take over the Halo movies. I was excited to hear that the movie might finally be happening.

Of course, my concern is this........will he remain true to the halo franchise and not butcher it and disappoint the true Halo fans? I have read the books and having a movie based off Halo would be awesome, in my opinion.

All I know, is that if/when the movie comes out and I am first in line to see the movie on opening day, I want to feel excited and I want to feel the same way I did when I played through all 3 Halo games. I want to actually feel "connected" with the characters in the game.....I want to laugh, cry, and understand the characters. *On a side note, I cried at the end of Halo 3* XD I want to be able to experience the same feelings I had during the games while watching this movie. I am excited about this news, but at the same time, I am really hoping he doesn't screw this up. Do you have any idea how many millions of people will be mad? Spielberg will almost have the entire world hating him for destroying the greatness that we all know as HALO! lol

And he BETTER include the Halo music! :p

EDIT: I also want to add that Spielberg is NOT directing it.....he is producing it. So now the REAL question is......who in the hell is gonna be directing!? :eek

If he is directing it, I want to see things that couldn't be done in Halo games.

Some example are:

*Seeing a brute kill a human only to eat Him/her.

*What a plasma greande/flame grenade/spike grenade can really do to flesh.

*How brtual the covenant REALLY be towards their human foes(Grunts doing some stuff we never thought they could).

*How a spartan fights large groups of enemies as well as hijacking vehicles.

*Large scale assaults/space battle.

*Seeing a person being infected by the flood in reall time.

*Marines, ODSTs, and civilians fighting the covenant(The marines can fight them in hand to hand even though they lose, lol)

*Hunters against humans!

*What plasma weapons do to heavy tank armor.

*What a wraith can do to a scorpion when it gets hit(Vise versa).

*seeing a grunt blow up from his own methane tank.

*Large masses of aliens preparing for war on high charity.

The list just goes on and on and on my friends.

I want the movie to be made kinda like Saving Private Ryan, but with aliens against humans, on steroids!!!

If I was making this movie I want to hear from the fans and bungie not my agents or whoever the hell he has to talk to when hes bored.

There is alot of stuiff to play with when doing a Halo movie, you just have to know whats canon and whats not so you can avoid it.

My issue is not Spielberg producing, but producing a Stuart Beattie script.

Ditto, like I said in my first post in this thread, did you guys read what Beattie said he thinks Halo is about in that interview? He says Halo is about a kid who no one cares about, who in turn cares about no one, who sort of accidentally , not really willingly, saves the universe....:eek

Not true. Dr. Hasely cared for her spartans and vise versa. I don't know why they hell that guy would say that in the interview. And how could he "accidentally" save the universe? He was being spied at the age of 6 by ONI to use him as a test subject in the SPARTAN II project.

Someone ought to throw the whole collection of books in his face and make him read the books to find out he was totally wrong.

To be honest, it sounds like he read up to the opening stages of John's induction training, and then started writing.

That's exactly what I said. Beattie even claims in the interview that he read and based his script on Fall of Reach, but I seriously doubt that based his quote.

Yeah, when I read that Beattie said that "Halo is about a kid who no one cares about, who in turn cares about no one, who sort of accidentally , not really willingly, saves the universe" my jaw hit the floor and I was like "WHAT!?" It seems right there he already screwed it up!!

How could Master Chief unwillingly save the universe?:eek

Ronster said:
How much do you wanna bet the Chief will be played by Shia LaBeouf now?

Ugh...

Nothing. Thats because I will probably lose. I would bet aginst him being the chief, and because I did, then he would play the chief. He is not the right actor to play the chief. Too small for a start. Mind you who is 7 foot tall? Maybe they should get one of the guys that play one of the predators to play him. They are big. All you would need to do is do voiceover from the original actor (It would not be the same without that voice) and I belive we would have a decent start there.

But no LaBeouf! Instant fail.
