Ok, small update. Got a few pieces pepped and want to get them resinned. Plan on doing today after I get some other jobs around the house done or tomorrow. Will definitely done before Wednesday and if anyone wants to give me tips on resinning (I've got all my safety gear so don't worry about that) than go for it. I plan oin using glass strips and not rondo, so I just resin the outside of the piece then lay strips of glass on the inside (once the outside has cured) and resin over the top of the right? Or do I need two coats of resin on the inside (one each side of the glass)? Anyways, here's some pics.

Another update (I don't care that it's a double post, it's reason enough for me to do it, sorry if it offends you, but it is different enough from the last post to have it's own post). I have now resinned the outside of five of the six pieces in the post above. I didn't resin the centre stomach piece, because my resin turned to gel and I decided I was tired and ready to head in (from the shed). Will get pics tomorrow morning when everything has cured and will then finish ressing the bits. Again, any advice welcomed.

Hey Thanks 50. Also, should I be able to smell the 'smell' of the resin when wearing the respirator? Just started thinking about it earlier.

Trust me....you can....I'm using a 3M and I can still smell it. But smell is not important, just make sure the toxic/poisonous materials do get to you. Raw resin is actually not toxic which I found out during the weekends when I did some Malay clothing type thing called 'Batik' and the guy told me he used raw resin to make the outlines. Raw resin is actually solid with no smell.

But.... I thought we were friends :'( Haha, thanks for the reply. I just figured since I had been out there about an hour I thought I better check whether or not smelling the stuff (through the respirator, for all you silly minded people out there) was good or bad.

But...we are friends D:!! Haha...jkjk....Though after resining, wearing it would be a problem, the smell of resin mixed with fiberglass would surround you. If you want to get rid of the smell....spray Primer :D

P.s: On my last post.....I meant 'don't get to you' XD!!! My stupidity is overcoming....I SHALL FIGHT BACK!!!

Haha, I know what you meant. I was having a joke. Now when you say wearing it, do you mean straight after resinning or after it's cured. I can pep and can figure out bog/bondo but I'm no good with fibreglass. I'm completely new to it.

Sorry, but that's wrong.

Your friend might have meant natural resin, the kind trees produce gets hard after a while. But actually I thought they use wax for Batik? How would you get resin back out of the textile after dyeing it?
The resin you buy is not some kind of molten-down "raw resin", it's an artificial mix of chemicals that will react and in the process get solid by forming long molecule-chains. In the case of polyester (aka "fibreglass") resin, all the reaction partners are in the big can (bifunctional alcohols and dicarboxylic organic acids, styrene as a reactive diluent, usually cobalt as a pre-catalyst), and the stuff in the small can (a peroxide catalyst) will speed the reaction up to a level that makes the whole thing practical.

What you're smelling is the styrene, and that is the most harmful component that's in there (to you anyways, we're not talking about bacteria and fish in the nearest river, obviously). If you smell that while wearing your respirator, then either your respirator isn't fitting tighly enough (to prevent that, do a seal check before starting your work; close the intakes with your hands and breathe in, no air should pass through), or your filters are worn out, or they just don't have a high enough adsorption capacity to begin with. Especially when working inside and/or in very close proximity to the resin (which is, in fact, rather likely to happen), the styrene concentration in the air can easily rise to a level where your respirator simply can't filter it all out.

Well, I went out this morning and checked the pieces and they're 'dry', but a little sticky (like a tiny bit), and they're clear/white and not brown/yellow. Is this because I'm using a different type of resin to you guys or I haven't put enough hardener in the mixture or it hasn't cured fully or something like that? The leftover resin that gelled last night is gold/brown. Any ideas?

Righto! Been a little while, but I've been busy with other stuff. The pieces are still in their first coat of resin (outside) and look a little odd to me. Everyone else's seems to be a gold/brown colour but mine's just white. Any ideas why?

Thanks Squish.

Also I've got a link to a colour/armour scheme generator I made in my sig for those of you also working on an ODST.

The resin I have is also more white than yellow-brown. Seems to vary from product to product. I wouldn't worry too much as long as everything else is ok.

As ventrue also said, it probablyy varies from product to product. Mine is also right, and I was a mite concerned about that when I started out, but it's fine :p

Looking great by the way!

On the last update, your first picture, what are the two parts underneath the chest piece (on the left and right, not the center)

Thanks guys, makes me feel good to know it's alright. Will finsh doing those bits in a couple of weeks when I get everything else done in my life.
Dammit Life! Why do you always get in the way of people's builds?!?

Not quite sure which pieces you're talking about, I'm tired, but the pieces on the outsides are the shoulders and the bits in the centre are the left and right Stomach Plates.

MOAR!!

I like whats going on...and it should not end!! Give me an update Soldier!

Haha, I planned on having an update for you but I have been snowed under with work and school and the like. I can tell you though, that I have changed direction a little, the ODST has gone on the back burner a bit and I expect to have an update for you in the next two weeks. I've also just got Portal 2, so expect further delays due to this.
