I jinxed myself and it has returned, I got my xbox 360 the year it came out and I had no problems, I talked to many people and they were all on their second or third xbox, even in game informer I read a while back said that during the E3 con, they only talked to one person on their first xbox. Well today I am having to say this sucks while looking at a flashing red ring.

Well Im a computer person that builds, fixes and mods, so Im not letting this once xbox go to waste, So I'm planning if I can't fix it by wraping it on a towel I'm going to mod it into something,

So does anyone have any ideas that would be a awsome modding project to do with it?

Also if I find something and start working on it, Ill keep posted.

If you were a "computer, build, and mod guy", you'd probably know that wrapping up a computer's vents in towels will only make things worse. Use the X-Clamp fix, get it reballed, or ship it in. There's nothing you can do with a 360 once it's gotten red rings unless you fix it.

Press the sync and eject button simultaneously four times and write down the number of lights shown during each press. It'll show you exactly what's wrong when you look that error code up on Google, but I think it's either the GPU or another video chip (graphics scaler?) that's gone kaput.

yeah I know, I really just said that one just because most people know it. (To get thoughts about it so when I resort to trying it out) Its four years old, so It doesn't have any warranty. anyway I already popped it open at taken a look, right know I don't have the right size hex driver to get the heat sink off, but I was going to reset it maybe get into some soldering probably not and put some new paste on it, and lock it down, if it doesnt work then im going to do what ever it until maybe of working.

Also the towel trick is basically the Reflowing trick,

They both heat it up and reset the solder.

Dude, did you even check the error code? Don't go poking around at the innards until you know the code! :/

uhh

well...

No I haven't, which is the typical way I do things, rush in take it all apart for something small, O well havent broke much, and most of the time fixing another problem, but when I do something like that I say I was cleaning it.

(think before doing for anyone that hasn't got the point.)

...I don't think you should be fixing things if that's the way you handle stuff. Broken electronics are best handled with a bit of research and a basic background in electronic components.

Very correct. Especially for Cameras. I'm never touching that capacitor again...

And thanks for reminding me I unintentionally removed my warranty sticker, didn't really understand what it was until it was half off... But if I get the RROD, I swear I will go down to my knees and cry, I don't have a job...

Just be glad you didn't work on what I mess with. 17kV is quite deadly. :)

Well I have be fixing electronics since I cracked open my first computer back when I was 8, and Im 19 now, and Have only broken a xbox 1, for stupid reasons.

The towel trick will not fix the solder, trust me. The RRoD is from warping in the internal components on most occasions. Read up on the X-Clamp fix, get someone with a little experience with soldering (maybe even yourself, if you've done it before), and try it. If it doesn't work, get it professionally reballed.

Or, just send it in to Microsoft. It takes a few weeks, sure, but it's free and guaranteed to come back working. No warranty? I can PM you a few methods of sending it in past the warranty expiration.

I still say that if you don't have the proper training, STAY OUT of your electronic stuff, especially the power supplies and anything with high voltages.

I would love to know the true failure rate on these things. My brother in laws died after just 6 months, then not 9 months later his refurb died and the MS rep tried to charge him $150 to fix it, so now its just sitting at his house collecting dust. The failure rate was the main reason I got rid of mine, even though it ran fine.

I've read about many people going through 5 or 6 consoles, and to me that is just insane.

The Elite that I bought new last year is still working, but my other consoles (which were Spartan green refurbs purchased on e-Bay) died after a few months. The white refurb I got from GameStop works wonderfully (had it for about 5 months now, and it gets abused by my church), but since it's an '07 model, there's no HDMI slot. :/
