I was finally able to supress that " WAIT I NEED TO FIX THAT SPOT" feeling and began molding

gonna be honest, i am not very confident making this mold. The silicone was much thicker than expected. Did my best to get it in all the detail as possible but still fearing there may be imperfection (i think im just being paranoid)

I went trought half a trial size and not sure if im working efficient enough. Will half a trial size be enough to finish the up the current side im working on?

Also when i remove the clay, I have rite aid pertroleum jelly, that will work to prevent the silicone from bonding when i start the other side correct?

DUDE! this is amazing!!!! you've got skillz! so how much bondo ect did you go threw? looks like allot!
thanks!
great work!

to much body filler, went through a full bucket of it and still wasnt finished. The amount sanded to the amount that stayed on the helmet is like 8:1 ratio. Thats the first helmet ive done so i've learned a lot

last picture i took before covering both sides with Fiberglass and rebound 25

Molds looking great man! And you dont have to worry about the silicone bonding to the clay, atleast if its an oil based clay, if thats what you meant..... And did you have a thickening agent for the silicone? Cause that was my flaw when making my first mold...... =(

The thing is, i only used the thickning agent to make register keys, I have both sides covered but i dont have plaster bandages to cover up the other half. hell, ill just fiberglass it instead if my dad forgets again to bring them

i failed

I came to report... that i have FAILED EPICLY.

just look for yourself

Spent a good time looking at what went wrong. All the deformities were under the register keys, i took some siscors and started making them smaller and now it seems the silicone fits alot better. I just poured a little smoothcast too see if i fixed the problem

On one side, part of outter shell on the dome didnt harden so that got pressed in. Im try to repatch that side of the mother mold at the moment

I also did a terrible job of slushing it around, i just couldnt see where i was moving the smoothcast

BUMP!! any progress to share?

Thanks alot! I fixed my mold, my next cast came out with much fewer wrinkles. I can confirm that the register keys are causing it so im just gonna completely trim them off.

Im working on dying a few visors for the people who ordered them right now. Ill fix up the cast with a little body filler and paint it. Ill have one done by monday completely painted with a visor. Ill also get some updates on the armor set

sounds good, plastic surgery on the helmets to de-wrinkleafiy them is always good...just so long as there isnt to much surgery other wise they will turn out like Dolly Parton!

Update on visors. It was a pain in the arse vacuforming these. I went through a crap load of plastic figuring how to do it properly

Dying them was really tricky, the water would start to re-melt the plastic again and the best method i could do was do it by hand and pull out every 15 seconds, then dip again and keep trying to reshape it

They arent crystal clear, but it was the best i could do. It was the tinnest PETG sheets they had at mcmastercarr, and i think becuase of the thickness its coming slighlty hazy
