Your progress is admirable, good job so far! Can't wait to see the rest of the work from you. :)

I've always wondered how the marine helmets would look with an antenna, similar to that of the Buck's style of ODST helmet.

Hey everyone.

Today I decided to sit down and start sculpting the marine helmet again so I can get rolling on the ODST helmet soon afterwards. I added some more clay so when I mold and cast the helmet it will actually be able to fit my head. I also carved in some more details, and am now working on insuring everything is symmetrical before adding the really high details. I still have a ways to go, but by the looks of it I should have the helmet molded, cast and finished by the Halo Reach multiplayer betas release.

I’m basing some of the design of the marine helmet off of the Operation Chastity helmet. As you can notice there are a few similarities.

I also managed to finish the neck plate.

I’ll have to bleach and fade it some more to make the olive drab fabric the exact shade I want it to be.

Anyway, that’s it for this update. I’ll be updating again soon.

Constructive criticism please!

I love that neck piece it looks really good. The cardboard armor looks really good to, the rondo formula works well on the cardboard for reinforcement i take it, (2 story drop and all).

Holy crap! If this ends up turning out as well as I think it will.

I will defiantly be interested in buying them maybe 3 if your up to the challenge. Honestly this is amazing I would love to have this in my film and of course you would be given full credit.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Your encouragement really helps me to keep working.

I just sent you a PM regarding your interest. Check your inbox!

The angles on the helm look slick, it looks like you used soooo much clay. haha

I bet its really heavy

Thanks for the comment mate.

I have used about 24 pounds of clay so far, and I admit it is starting to be a chore to carry from one place to the other. A few weeks ago I dropped the helmet. Luckily minimal damage occurred.

Molding will be taking place within the next week to 10 days. Keep an eye open!

Thanks FROCKLIFFE, but that is my photobucket file…

Anyway, I thought it would be nice if I shared some of my concept drawings of the armour and helmet.

I have drawn many profile views of the helmet, and I believe this is the one I will be gunning for in the end.

After a lot of conceptualization and research on the helmet padding of todays military helmets, I have managed to design a passing system that will not only be comfortable, but practical and overall cool looking.

Here is the basic padding layout.

MarineHelmetPaddingsystem1.jpg

As you can see, I took an aspect from the Weta version ODST helmet by adding the exposed padding at the back of the helmet.

The overall look of the padding system should be similar to this.

MarineHelmetPaddingsystem2.jpg

I have also dug up one of my concepts of the armour from a year ago. The drawings are mis-scaled, but they put my point across.

MarineConcept1.jpg

I also designed an under-armour vest to be both compatible with the ODST and Marine Chest and Back pieces. There is still some tweaking to do, but its getting there.

That’s it for this update. Stay tuned in for an update on the helmet sculpt by Friday.

I'm liking the Cocept Xtreme, as usual even you're concepts are blowing my prop making out of the water 50 ft. into the air. :)

Thanks for the comments and encouragement everyone. It really keeps me going.

I have gotten a bit more finished on the marine helmet sculpt. I added a load more clay to the top, and triple-checked the measurements to be sure the helmet will fit properly on my head with padding when I mold and cast it.

002-1.jpg

As you can see, I still have to sculpt the other side.

In comparison with a replica 1:1 Scale PASGT Helmet.

I have also started the shoulder. I plan to have the shoulder sculpted and in the mold Sunday. It will act as my “experimental” piece so I don’t mess up with the molding and casting of the helmet.

003-2.jpg

Still plenty of work to do.

I also got my black Gel coat in. I’m set to cast the helmet, but not quite ready to mold.

002-2.jpg

I should be getting my Rebound 25, Plasti-paste and other goodies in the mail tomorrow.

I also went through my vast collection of spray paints and acrylics to find the proper colours for my helmet.

004-1.jpg

To add to this rather large update, I also re-conceptualized the helmet. I find this design FAR better then the original.

MarineHelmetConcept2.jpg

Now, I have decided to make custom armour to go with the custom helmet. I recently discovered that the Weta version chest and back plates didn’t “complement” the helmet, so I have decided to stay a little more true to the Halo 3 marine chest and back, but with some Weta design mixed in.

I’ll be posting more concept designs and progress soon.

Cheers!

I like the new concept but, mind making the glasses just standard UNSC Marine Glasses on the ones you send me?

Oh by the way well the 405th was down I made this quickly: http://s375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/FROCKLIFFE/?action=view&current=Fx.jpg

I may be able to do that, however it will almost completely "screw over" my initial plan. Molding and casting is fairly expencive, so if you want me to make you custom goggles for your marine armour, the price will be very high because I will only produce 3 or 4 casts tops. Those 3 or 4 casts will have to be priced so I make my money I put into them back.

Clay is expencive (About $8.00 per pound) and I have used 30 pounds of clay on the helmet so far. With the added clay from the goggles and strike shield (Another 10-12 lbs) the clay alone costs $330.00(ish). And that isn't including the molding and casting materials (Another $200.00-$400.00).

yeah, but clay is reusable... and WHAT? Van Aken clay is NOT $8.00 a pound, it's around 3-4 USD a pound. I did have a question though, how are you smoothing your clay? Scrapers, or what solvent are you using? Sorry if you've posted it, I just havn;t seen it.
