Yet another first time build ODST

Ive been loving my CR-10 v3. Its a work horse.
The prusa mini is solid. It's reliable, and turns out good prints with minimal baby-sitting. It is pricier and has a smaller build plate which can be annoying. I think now that I have experience with it I'd feel comfortable buying a cheaper larger printer that needs more hand holding.

The suit progresses. I've finished printing the shoulder parts, and have moved on to finishing them. I'll post pictures of where that's at once I get home from work, but its been slow as I'm at the mercy of the warm weather (or lack thereof). The biggest lesson I'm learning so far is not to rush, I got as far as priming some of them and I'm not pleased with the bondo and epoxy work so it's more epoxy+more sanding until I repaint.

Alright, Picture time.

So far I've been using a two part thin epoxy coating. It works, but going forward I'm going to try some epoxy made for covering 3d prints.

Feet first into hell right?

These are the boots. They were very cheap on Amazon. They were supposedly size ten, but they're definitely bigger than that. Once they're broken in I think some insoles and maybe thick socks will make them comfortable enough for cons. I wouldn't go hiking in them though.

I took a bit of a break between changing jobs and being annoyed with myself for rushing the shoulder armor. But I finally got back into things. I got some sandpaper and fixed the ugliness of the shoulder armor and repainted it. They should be done tomorrow when I can go buy more paint. Printing has started on the forearms and I made an Amazon order to get Velcro, webbing, and random buckles. I also got finger-less gloves.

Genuinely wish id thought of using orange filament for the front of my own magnum.
Genius.
As for the rest: coming along well! I used the same files (mostly!) and theyve come up a treat.

How’s this coming along? It’s looking fantastic so far! How’s the comfortability of all the armor since it’s all printed?
Unfortunately virtually none since last post. I had some 3d printing woes, mostly due to bad filament and high humidity. I finally seem to have that sorted so I'm back to banging out 12 hour prints... Plus I'm realizing I should probably have mirrored one of the arm pieces as they aren't symmetrical. So I'll probably have to start that over...

About as far as it was printing with the bad filament.

Finally progress.

And now it's glued on and I wait another 10 hours...

Actually it's just orange paint... And I've definitely been following your work on Instagram. I love what you've done so far.

In terms of comfortability, I can't really say since the only part that's wearable so far is the helmet. But that's very comfortable with the padding to hold it in the right place.

Hey it happens! I’ve been working on casting a reach scout helmet, finally started to cast it and it’s been a lot of trial and error. Trying to not get discouraged myself. Just gotta keep working at it!

I'm just curious. I see a lot of people saying they are "casting this helmet" or that helmet.
Why? What are you expecting to get out of casting whatever helmet you have so it is resin instead?
Or to put it another way... What's wrong with the printed helmet making you want to cast it?
