*Almost* height accurate Kat B320 build

I have been creating 501st costumes over the past couple of years and decided to shift back to my Halo roots and finally complete a Halo build, this time aiming for a Spartan. I quickly knew that I wanted to build Kat’s armor from Halo: Reach. I will be using Calto elevator shoes and in costume I stand at 6’6”ish, only a couple of inches shorter than her canonical height.

All of my armor pieces I have already printed in ABS. I have almost completed part prep and prime on everything. I have been working on finishing my helmet first for somewhat of a proof of concept and a visual piece to keep my motivation high. The bucket has been painted its final color, decals created and applied, fans and harness system installed, and only needs detail work and weathering. I have been casting silicone under suit elements from 3D printed molds, still a work in progress on that front.

I’m hoping to be done by mid November, but I don’t really have any hard deadlines until March. Anyways, figured I’d share a little bit of my progress here, hope y’all like it!

Progress Update:
Life and the holidays have slowed down progress quite a bit, but I’m taking it as a sign to practice patience. I’ve been working mainly on my leg pieces and they are turning out better than expected! I keep getting happier and happier with the results which in turn is increasing my motivation in the project.

…now I just need to figure out a way to reliably heat my shop

I said I was going to take my time, but then I decided I wanted to finish in time for a con this weekend so I’ve been rushing a little bit. I have some fitment tweaks I still need to make and add the little scope on the helmet (doing literally right now), but yeah she’s pretty much ready to go!

Sooooo did you like up scale the legs and thighs and stuff to accommodate for the extra height in the boots or is it just your scale? Asking for a below 6ft friend (Also paint job looks damn near accurate! Good ****!)

Obviously there is a ton of scaling regardless of height, but yes I had to adjust some things to fit my needs. I’m 6’2” so I didn’t have to adjust much on the height end, if anything I had to increase vertical scaling. My biggest hurdle was decreasing X and Y scaling to fit my frame, keep a feminine profile to the armor, and not look overly screwed in one dimension over the others. As far as the feet go, I waited until I had the shoes in hand and scaled the boot cover to fit over the top of them.

Thanks! The painting was interesting, I experimental with techniques that were new to me and combined those with elements I am familiar with, which is the best part of cosplay, learning new skills. Getting the color close enough to my liking was the biggest hurdle, but the chipping and weathering were super easy.

Wow! I'm stunned speechless by the paint and weathering work you did! (also I'm just starting my first set of armor ever, so there's a lot for me to be impressed by XD)

May I ask, where did you source the models for the non-helmet pieces? They seem like really high quality meshes - I think most of the reach MK5B female armor I've seen in the repository on this forum are lower-res and aimed at pepakura (.pdo files).

Oh, that neck seal looks really good by the way. Did you print that in a flexible filament, or is that custom foam work? In any case, stunning work!

edit: actually it looks like molded latex maybe?

It is silicone casting from a 3D printed mold

Majority of my armor files are from Instinct Creative, but I mixed in a piece here and there from other makers to make it align more with the female mkvb variant. For instance the female “cod piece” I used is by MoeSizzlac which is in the 3D file repository here on the forums.

Got to publicly debut my Kat this weekend. I had the pleasure of meeting Steve and Jen! They both complimented my armor which made me super proud and giddy! :)
