i was resining and i didnt have a respirator so i was like **** it, ill do it without one, whats the worst that could happen? then thought later probably should have used one..

Well, it could mess up your lungs pretty bad. Fiberglass will cut them up and junk. Plus istsnot good to breathe in fumes. Its best to get plenty of fresh air and be sure to use one next time.

i did a whole suit....it hurt to breath for the next few months when i did alot of physical activity...it not worth it their only $40

K, dude, I started in, like, January. I got a respirator on monday. (yes, this is august.) RESPIRATORS ARE A GOOD IDEA! But you're not gonna die. HOWEVER - ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS work fiberglass resin in LOTS of fresh air, with LOTS of ventilation. I do my work outside on the back patio (Much to the dismay of my mother. Need to get a few resin spills cleaned up, lol. j/k) And, for the love of all that is merciful on the green planet, Don't inhale the flippin' vapors if you can help it. Sure they smell funny, and they're TOXIC. They will eat your lungs away very slowly.

Hope this helps.

^^ what Sean said. Sure the fumes smell funny and you could tolerate them, but you gotta think long term effects. I have used one since day 1 and my lungs feel fine. I used it when i spray paint and when i sand and cut my pieces because of the little fiberglass dust pieces that can get in your lungs. and when you start cutting and sanding, USE GOGGLES/SAFETY GLASSES!! I've been hit in the goggles by lots of little pieces that could have probably damaged my eye pretty bad if i didnt have them. Ive seen some cheap respirators at harbor freight. Probably worth the $20 or whatever they were ;) good luck dude!

You can get the paper ones for only like, 9.
Sorry to hear about that tough. D: That really sucks.

The paper mask wouldnt help protect against fumes. It will help somewhat with the actual fiberglass stands not being sucked into your lungs though I would choose a respirator that can filter the fumes as well. When you say paper mask, Im picturing those 'dust masks' they sell at home depot or lowes for sanding. cheap throw away masks, like the SARS panic masks..

i use one of those white masks, but mine has a air filter
And i ALWAYS sure i'm standing out of the wind direction

Yes that is what i have been using and i do plan on getting a real big one. Just dont have the funds for it now, so i just do it in a awesomely ventilated area in the back yard.
