Like Ruze said, nice work on the armour, buddy. Those additional armour pieces you posted pics of look good. Using those high-detail Pep files really helps with minimizing the amount of details one has to add themself.

And believe me, I know what I'm talking about, lol.

Have you made more progress on any of this? Either printed/cut/folded/glued any other pieces, or started resining/fiberglassing some of what you have? o_O

and if you want to get rid of all the useless scoring (and make your life sooooooo much easier) listen up.
if you dont know, go to "configurations", Line style configuration, angle to be considered almost flat, and go down to the angle you think is good enough. Most likely all of the lines will go down depending on your model, my usual comfortable zone is about 160-155 degrees.
Bet rvb, If you do that you might not get all of the right angles you want.
Example.

ah, replying to all the posts. my favorite thing!

Flying ninja- pepakura is free and is as simple as the amount you can count up to. just cut, fold and glue. i have the best tutorial (from what im told) on how to do it, its for dummies (or noobs). just click on the portal, it comes up at the top of the page (convenient, aint it?)

Arbiter- i dont do pdf requests at all. sorry. im not a jerk or anything, i just dont know how and dont have the time to do it. pep is free for everything except saving files.

SPARTAN II- yesterday i went to a drill competition (military thing) and didnt get back till 7, but i was so tired that i didnt do anything afterwards (except keegans arby files) so everything is still a WIP.

Keegan- cutting down on angles is my thing. i try to do less scoring this way, it still looks good, but i wont have to sand as much. it looks cleaner, and is my personal preference. im just lazy, and it looks like it dosent matter.

anyway, i should be able to get my fiberglassing materials soon, my dad is gonna (hopefully) take me to home depot to get some stuff we are doing to the house, but i will try to get my resin and respirator there.

is there some certain kind or size i should know about? if so, post a link to help me.

sorry SKG, no aqua resin 4 me, im tryin to go toxic (keeps the little brother away and lets me look cool) :rolleyes

long post made short- i like replying, angles are bad, fiberglass resin is good, im still working.

it gives it a more natural curve that way, so you wont have to bondo and sand it too much, depending on the angle you stop it at.

I should be able to get fiberglass within the week, but i dont know if 80 bucks is enough for a helmet's worth of resin. is it?

I couldn't really say, as I've never resined/fiberglassed anything before myself, dude. As you know, I'm using a different method for building up my armour...

yeah, i meant from people who use fiberglass.

the question is......how much do i need for even just the helmet, and how much will that set me back?

i have a plan this summer. if i get my helmet (or other armor pieces) done, i can mold it and hopefully sell it. I know you molders pay your projects off that way, hopefully i can have enough cash to get a project done.

ill be the only one on the block with chest perms for when i feel like kicking ass in STYLE.

Nice... sounds like a plan, buddy. Even if you only sell a few pieces, that'll probably go a long way to covering at least the initial expenses of your project.

Hey, actually... talking about permutation pieces, maybe you could specialize in those. No one else here has really done any work on making any of those available.

Just a thought, dude... ;)

LMAO!!!

I've actually had that happen a time or two myself. I don't know if you're at all familiar with Star Trek, but anyway...

There was this one time I'd bought a machined aluminum handle/power pack (non-working, of course) for a Phaser One/Phaser Two prop replica -- like what they used on the Original Series, back in the late 60's -- from a guy down in Washington, DC.

I sent him payment via Paypal, he sent the handle out that same week, but it took more than a month to get to me. I corresponded with him a few times in that month, and he made several stops at the Post Office to find out what was going on with it.

Turned out it had gotten as far as the Canada/US border in less than two weeks, but got stopped there because the Customs agents didn't know what it was, and so thought maybe it was part of a weapon of some sort. Which it was, technically, but not a real-world, working weapon, lol.

I'd definately suggest you sell those permutations with the knife molded IN, not separately. That might save you and your buyers a little aggravation in the long run, lol.

I really think that would be kewl if you went that route, as I'm sure there would be a lot of people here wanting to get those for thier own armour, but don't necessarily want to put the time and effort into making them. I don't doubt there'd be a good deal of demand for that sort of thing. Could work out very well for you... :D

Well thanks, rvb. I know as much as I do about this sort of thing due to the seven-plus years of experience I've gained being in the prop hobby.

Also, whenever I've worked on a scratch-build project of some sort, I've always taken into consideration just how I could it make available to others, as most of what I scratch-build are rarer/hard-to-find pieces, so I know there'd be a good market for them, lol.

HALO armour is no different. As I've been working on my own, I'd already given some thought as to what I could develop that would be of more interest to others here. I like to think of it as my way of trying to give something back to the community, if only in a small way :)

And, I always take interest in others' work. I mean, we're all here for the same reason, and I find it interesting to see just what others do to make thier work unique and more personalized. As for your "sad masquerade called armor building", don't sell yourself short. I really think you've been making good work on your armour, and your progress.

Hey, even those of us more experienced in prop-building and the like had to start somewhere, so it's not like you're the only one.

It's all pretty kewl, imho.

lol i havent done anything else as of right now..... i have been focusing more on guitar hero (6th tier on expert!) and i have lots of schoolwork to do, a few essays due in a few days, projects,

i even have a spanish paper i havent even started due 2 weeks ago :p

so......its goin slooooooow.....

Ah, you suck...

Just kidding, buddy!

It's quite understandable that, as much as you may want to be doing more work on this project, there are real-life matters that must take priority. There have been many times where I've been itching to work on a prop project of some sort, but other things have gotten in the way. Such is life :p

Hopefully, we can see more progress on this soon enough, dude...

EDIT: You might want to get going on that overdue Spanish paper btw, lol

yeah, im kinda goin slow on everything right now, but the good news is that when i get my fiberglass (which i hope i have enough cash for) it should be goin right back to normal, because everything is technically done, i dont count the belt, because thats just annoying, but everything else is done.

im also teachin myself how to play guitar, and let me tell ya......if you are as good as i am at guitar hero, real guitar is impossible. oh well, guess i gotta go back to basics

i havent used an instrument in over 6 years, and that was the saxophone. at least i can download as much material i want.
