As a REAL drummer, I know for a fact that Travis Barker is not that great, and that kevlar coated snare drum he was playing on was the same style that my highschool band uses, it's all really standard stuff, just impressive to the untrained eye.
The second video is ridiculous, he looks like he's about to crack all of those cymbals, and those drum heads. And the hi-hat beats are simple really, fills as well. He really just hits the drumkit very hard overall.

Don't idolize a mediocre drummer please.

It is...

That was a very busy time around here after it happened, he stayed at a hospital maybe 20-30 miles from my house, so there were people coming in and out. MY sister said she saw Shana (his ex-wife) one day, lol

But, on to the topic, he has always been one of the best and one of my favorites. Those videos show why, too :p

as a "real" drummer myself as well, I just have to say don't jump on the hate Travis Barker bandwagon like most "drummers" tend to do.

He's surely not the best drummer out there, but whether someone idolizes him or not, he's still a great drummer that is into his music and knows how to put on a performance.

What is the point of putting people down, taking sides and making judgements?
He has obviously some talent if he is popular. Suit yourselfs, dont flame.

PERIOD

I'm a drum kit player, but I know plenty of people in band that do that stuff.
And god, sorry for putting Travis down, whatever happened to stating opinion?
I'll admit that he did go through a lot playing with one arm, but he's not the only one (Def Leppard)

I can't really give videos, or at least any good quality videos, because my camera can't record all of the sounds correctly, and is just bad.

i didnt mean to sound like a jerk and srry about that.

its just the time that travis has put into his work and how you can see how its all in his head just making it up on the spot is just something unbelievable. i dont know if you computer could see that he wasnt ever looking at the snare he was always looking ahead of it.

Nah, I was being the jerk, I just don't like it when people think some drummer is like one of the best, and is overrated, but there are plenty of other drummers of our time who are better than he is.
Where is Buddy Rich when you need him?

Oh, just thought I'd put this down as well;
Even though he hits the drums and cymbals as hard as possible, just because he is putting a lot of energy into it, consider this: Not everyone can afford to replace cymbals and drum heads every 2 gigs, and he is also wasting energy in just one song, I mean, you can train and build up endurance, but it takes a while to do that, look at Derek Roddy, he's been doing blast beats for over 10 years, and the endurance required is huge, same applies to other types of drumming. So although apparently hitting the kit hard is cool and makes a person talented, people don't like to spend years getting the endurance and the money to replace everything.
Sorry I had to let that thought out.
