Blender: 2.4 vs 2.5

Either should work, Blender 2.5 is just an updated version. Currently, it's still in Beta, which means there could be issues, however it's highly likely you'll never encounter them. As it says on their site, 2.49B is the latest stable release. There's very little difference in function between them, as far as I know.

Yeah, like Fyerfye said, 2.5.2 is still in the beta so it is missing some things. Such as the redo, click and drag to move vertices, holding shift to get the opposite direction when choosing views and so on. I probably havent found them all but those are a few of the things missing.

use only 2.5 for smoke effects at the moment. They havn't imported the rest good yet. Alot of modeling tools are missing so stick with the older version till its out.
