Should there be a Canadian subforum?

DISCLAIMER: Before you all complain saying this is the wrong section, I posted this here because I don't want it to be buried in the noob forum, or forgotten in 405th discussion, I want it SEEN.

Since I first joined the 405th, I have noticed that there were a fair number of Canadian members. There's quite a few of us, mostly in AB, ON, and QB, but there are members in other provinces like BC(myself), Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. We have made some pretty darn good props and and have some really ambitious projects; the Operation: Callaghan fan film in whistler for example. We do contribute alot, but when it comes to discussing things like going to a con in Toronto, or if we should get bondo in Wal-Mart or Canadian tire, we have nowhere to do it.

So I propose that the Canadian members get their own forum, much like what the UK members have. A separate place where we can discuss things that are of little or no importance to the rest of you, but are of much interest to us. Here we could also accommodate the french speakers of the forum in a sub-section, due to the fact that french is an official language in Canada.

Some possibilities for discussion in this forum:

-Canadian molding/glassing product variations

-Fan-films, Operation Callaghan for example

-Prop meetings, I know for sure that there clusters of members in AB, QB, and ON, close enough to meet up

-Conventions in Toronto and Montreal, as well as wherever else there's a con

-Groups of Canadian members going to con's south of the border

-Trading/selling props to people closer to you, less shipping

-How to deal with colder weather while working on ones costume ;)

-Any legal problems specific to Canadian law, ie. prop guns

-introductions

And many many other things

One of the reasons there is so little Canadian 405th stuff happening is because there is nowhere to discuss it. Just give us a place to do so and we'll thrive.

SO I ask the members of the 405th to discuss this. I also ask the moderators to think about this, as it will cause the Canadian 405th to thrive, and reduce Canada related posts in the other sections.

Post any apprehensions you have of this idea, or possible improvements.

Many thanks,

I really think this could be great and also for the french part. I try to do my best to help some of the french speaker here, but if there would be a little place in the canadian section that could be great. But only a canadian section would be enough for me to, we could prepare some regrouping in the area that we live.

For sure.

There are many members from Quebec on the 405th, and having a section in the hypothetical Canadian forum for french Canadian members would be a feasible idea.

P.S. Please don't vote in the poll if you don't care about what this topic has to say.

I think this is an excellent idea. If for some reason it does not get approved i could set something up on my website to help out us canadians.

Ill PM Adam asking him if this is something he is open to doing.

Ill report back ASAP.

EDIT: His inbox was full :(

I voted yes! Largely for the trading/selling and group get-together planning.

*LOL* And yes, so we can all bitch together about trying to armour/weapon-smith in the cold that fills at least 6 months of the year!

LoL!

Not to mention the amazing sculpting product, that every citizen in Canada gets for free: SNOW.

I'm still trying to contact a mod, Adam's inbox is full, any suggestions as to who I should contact?

I like this idea, a canadian forum is the first thing I looked for after reading stickies for 2 weeks!

I apologize for necro-threading but I'm wondering if this idea could have some life breathed into it?

I'm in Nova Scotia and being able to easily discuss 405th related topic with Canadian members would be very handy. I'd like to know where's the best place to order stuff without getting killed on shipping, or what's the lowest temperature someone has resined something, or is this item cheaper at Canadian Tire or Princess Auto, or is anyone interested in sending me their Canadian Tire money ...

You know, topics that are related to 405th, but of little interest to the wider community.
