DISCLAIMER: Before you all complain saying this is the wrong section, I posted this here because I don't want it to be buried in the noob forum, or forgotten in 405th discussion, I want it SEEN.
Since I first joined the 405th, I have noticed that there were a fair number of Canadian members. There's quite a few of us, mostly in AB, ON, and QB, but there are members in other provinces like BC(myself), Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. We have made some pretty darn good props and and have some really ambitious projects; the Operation: Callaghan fan film in whistler for example. We do contribute alot, but when it comes to discussing things like going to a con in Toronto, or if we should get bondo in Wal-Mart or Canadian tire, we have nowhere to do it.
So I propose that the Canadian members get their own forum, much like what the UK members have. A separate place where we can discuss things that are of little or no importance to the rest of you, but are of much interest to us. Here we could also accommodate the french speakers of the forum in a sub-section, due to the fact that french is an official language in Canada.
Some possibilities for discussion in this forum:
-Canadian molding/glassing product variations
-Fan-films, Operation Callaghan for example
-Prop meetings, I know for sure that there clusters of members in AB, QB, and ON, close enough to meet up
-Conventions in Toronto and Montreal, as well as wherever else there's a con
-Groups of Canadian members going to con's south of the border
-Trading/selling props to people closer to you, less shipping
-How to deal with colder weather while working on ones costume
-Any legal problems specific to Canadian law, ie. prop guns
-introductions
And many many other things
One of the reasons there is so little Canadian 405th stuff happening is because there is nowhere to discuss it. Just give us a place to do so and we'll thrive.
SO I ask the members of the 405th to discuss this. I also ask the moderators to think about this, as it will cause the Canadian 405th to thrive, and reduce Canada related posts in the other sections.
Post any apprehensions you have of this idea, or possible improvements.
Many thanks,
-Devious
