Is there a way I can hook my computer to be viewed on my television screen? I have a VGA cord, I think thats what I might need, but Im not sure.

What kind of sockets do you have in the back of your TV? If you've got a vga input on the TV you should be able to plug the computer in and have it all work, if not you might need something like this.
It might also depend on the kind of TV, I run my Mac on a Samsung LCD TV through the vga and it works well but I'm not sure if there are any restrictions or limitations with different brands/models.

I looked at my TV and there isnt a VGA plug, there are S videos, and there are S videos on my laptop. Would a male/male S video cable work?

You'll get 480p output I'm pretty sure, nothing more, nothing less, unless your computer has a weak graphics card.

To view it, it'll probably be on video mode on your TV, some TV's have 1-3+ video modes, so flip around to see which it is.

The resolution if your TV may not be right for your computer, so it may looks all fuzzy and text may be unreadable.

It's best to connect a PC to a TV when you have a LCD TV, they will usually have dvi/vga input which will allow HD image and resolutions your PC are compatible with.

Yup, i have used this often... but if your televisions max resolution is 480i you cant see anything.
even tough the maximium output is 480i on the cable it will still look okay on an hd tv

Because the way a LCD is designed, the pixels are snap right next to each other just about, while on a standard CRT tv, go close, and you can see the black spots that separate the pixels.

I'd still look into getting a LCD tv, even if 19 inches, I use my school PC on a 15inch LCD which up close is big enough for me, and I play my ps3 on a 15 inch LCD with PC speakers hooked up to the cables.

Newer graphic cards support TVs as second monitor quite well. I have hooked up a PC to just a TV, but it's difficult to read the text. Gaming is possible.

Go for the male/male s-video cable
