Ok, so I remember asking this a while ago, but I may have deleted some of the stuff I was working on.

I just got a hold of a new (in the sense of just aquiring) 3d model of a Sabre starfigher and an Onager Mass Driver. Could someone do me a quick favor and convert these .MAX models into .OBJ's?

It would be really awesome, guys.

Thanks, All!

.max is the extension for a studio max workfile. Just open it in studio max and export it ;) you can get a free student license anytime. Autodesk gives it for free.

It's been a while since I've taken a look at this thread again. But I have some news, inquiry and a possible release! Who here works with .mdl and .vtf? I have just acquired some models from a friend who dotes around the Facepunch forums, and they contain some armor pieces for the Halo reach spartans.

I'll post a link for the mdl models, if anyone can help me convert them to objs.
Here's the file:

Thanks again, yo.

I'll take a look into it later...
Which armour parts does it have? I think we have most of them now, don't we?

koshima, looks like the model pack you got is the same one that we found last year, which was the Reach male and female basic armor and Mk V(B) helmet. I can't remember if any of the rest of it was really extracted files or if it was all just Halo3 or fan-created files... anyone else remember?

And bevbor, seems your model is just the base Reach armor, unless I'm missing something. You need a Studio Decompiler to get all the different helmets and parts.

Nice work, guys, and once again, thank you!
Feel free to use them for whatever purpose you need to, but remember to credit Bungie if neccesary.
I intend on trying animation, for a personal study and a possible development in which a team of Spartans defend a human city.
Of course, that's just the idea.

I have another noob-ish question, and it may be the last for this thread, depending on what else I find out there...
Is there a way to convert .fbx files through the use of another program, or is it JUST a 3dsMax exclusive file type, and can't be cross-platformed?
I've found a ton of Halo-related files, with a whole Scarab model, and would like to pep a few of them.
Thank you all, once again, for the help and advice.
You guys rock.

.fbx is cross platform for autodesk products only - ie. 3ds, maya, mudbox. Where as .max is 3ds only.
In terms of models like the scarab, couldn't you just pull them from h3? or have these been simplified?

I've found a few free models in .max format... Is there a free ulity to convert the .max format into .obj or .3ds file format....

Sorry but I do not know anyone with 3DMax....

You can pick up a free copy of Autodesk 3DS Max by joining the online community site with a student account. That'll allow you to obtain all full programs for free, and you can start here.
