First Build - Recon MKV(B)

Here are some pictures from Katsucon, I have quite a few revisions I would like to redo like my harness and adding extra interior clips so stuff doesn't move to much.
Yes I can sit in it too

I'm tossing around the idea of doing the Yoroi core with the wet crow coating after my mk.7 has had enough. What color did you use for the dark gray slate color and did you use a specific gold?

So actually I got really lucky my hardware store still carried some cans of the dark grey. I bought like 10 for $6 each? It was enough that I had 3 cans left over. Seems noone around me carries this dark grey or anything similar.
I had found 2 cans of a dark blue grey but it was to blue honestly.
However I went to an automotive store that could match the exact dark grey blue color wet crow is and they originally quoted me like $40 a can. Which is not worth it to me lol

The gold is pretty standard and I found it all over. Which was honestly surprising. I used a q tip on the small stuff to give it a dragged worn look with the paint though.
The real thing to pay attention to is the sealer. Since it's a matter sealer it strengthens the color alot and makes it's deep. I had used 2 different kinds for this armor and if you look at my shins you'll see it's color doesn't match perfectly with the rest and it's due to the sealer.

Thanks for the all the info, it may still be a minute before I do it but I'll definitely save this and come back to it

This is awesome work. Congratulations on your journey from being inspired to inspiring others. I admittedly just found this thread, and have learned a lot from it. I particularly loved the way you did your harness and am a big fan of the Emile shoulder.

You mentioned that it was originally magnetized but was too strong to pull off. Smart move going with the leather strap, but can I ask how you attached the sheath for the knife to the shoulder? Is it also magnetized?

Thanks again for the great thread!

Thank you! I really hope others find it helpful with all the reference pictures. I honestly should have done a video
The harness has been trial and error, keep having to resew the strap closer cause of the sag it causes lol

So the magnet was way to strong and glue made it so I cound not remove it. So I went with good ol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ screw it.
Literally.

So I took a screw going from the inside of the shoulder to the inside of the back of the sheath. You don't notice it at all. It's also how I attached my shoulder pieces to make them modular. Makes it super easy to take apart and carry. Glue would not have been enough unless it was epoxy cause each shoulder is roughly 2-3 1/2 lbs. Except my light scout one.

Hello again! Took inspiration from your Security/Emile shoulder and 3D printed my own bolts for it. May have ended up being heavier than a metal bolt from the hardware store...

I am also battling the heavy shoulders woes. How did yours hold up with the harness? I have almost identical nylon web harness to yours and am wondering how it's going to hold up with the monster of a pauldron on it. It just wants to swing towards my back from the weight. Wondering how I can make it behave on my bicep without cutting off the circulation in my arm.

So I would suggest if you are doing the bolt route, metal was lighter for me. I picked up some aluminum based screws, super light weight too. That should be a better choice if you plan to wear it longer and worried about weight and it falling.

My harness as you can see goes along the top ridge of my shoulder to the outside edge of my bicep where I clip it in and its not fully visible. I have it pulled up as far as possible currently so I don't need to worry about it moving around to much. Where it did move around (backside of the bicep) I added foam and cut slits in it for grip. It doesn't move around now. Another thing I suggest is add a 1mm foam slice on the inside edge of the bicep at the top where your armpit is, that gives it some grip.

For weight wise, my Security shoulder is about 4 lbs overall. Its heavy. I adjusted my harness multiple times to try and offset the weight on it. It still sucks and I can only wear it for roughly 5-6 hours. I would experiment with your harness and look up weight distribution safety gear. That's what I looked up!

Awesome! I’m clocking in at a pound and half without the knife (which is light) and have an almost identical harness setup to yours so that eases my concerns a lot. I’m redoing my harness to be separate top and bottom rigging. Currently it prevents me from bending over

Look at keeping it together through the back and make the front able to come apart, that allows you to adjust the harness webbing to allow you to bend over, I have an X shape on my back and just the two I I line likes ones on the front. The ones on the front unclip from the bottom and top half, I also can adjust those. That allows for you to bend over easier. I have almost full range of motion, even sitting (minus my shins which I need to redo). Its super helpful. I can post some pictures later of how mine is done if that would help?

My harness is literally the same thing haha the issue is the back belt being what’s holding up my leg pieces. When I bend, the X band on the back pulls the belt and thighs up, but hitches because they can’t get pulled up any higher.

Late to this thread but you were at Katsu con? I’m pretty sure I saw you there I might’ve even just complimented your armor but I can’t even remember what I was wearing. That whole con became a blurry after I left.
