First Project, Stormtrooper Helmet

sorry guys for the lack of updates, my desktop is down and can't print at the moment. but Stromtrooper helmet 2.0 is a failure, it's still too small. I need to do some more measuring and stuffs before printing 3.0. any more fitting tips are welcome too

So whats up guys, its been awhile. I'm still working on the helmet. I got a good one, fiberglassed it, and I am now in the bondo finishing stage before I make the mold for it.

this is looking pretty solid from what i saw in the first few pics. i know they are of the smaller helmet, but if the rebuild is anything like the smaller one, then i know you're on the right track. keep up the good work :)

The first few pics are awsome man, I did a storm trooper too just to break things up a bit, I think theres a pic of mine on my commando thread. That was probably one of the most difficult peps I've ever done! Sounds like you finally got it scaled right, would love to see some fresh pics.

Had to add this: If you wanna get really crazy, send me a pm with your email address and I will send you the storm trooper file I have. Its way crazy on the detail.

I think I've seen this helmet before. I think its a bit "tubey" scalewise. There is an updated stormtrooper helm called trooper10d1-clean.pdo You may want to see if you like that one better, before you make a new one.

Whats up guys, I got bored sanding the bondo, so I decided to post some pics, I'm starting with the back, because I still have to make sure it's symmetric and stuff. I am going to cut out the back dents to make better ones. And thanks blue2k, for the advice, and gliderx64 do you have the whole suit?
Oh, if the helmet looks a bit small its because it is slightly small but I'm planning on making a mold and casting it, so it should be the right size after being thrown.

Pictures look good. I guess you realise sanding is 'so much fun' already..... LOL Looking good. Will hang around to see more.

Long time, no update guys. So after some of sitting around working on it here and there. And then not working on it. I recently got re-inspired to finish my helmet. I saw a cosplay show on scifi channel the other day, and saw the steam punk storm trooper, and was like mine is that good. So I started up again hardcore on the sanding and filling, and almost got the top round, and the back ready for finalizing, and sides decent. Then I was double checking the face, and thats when I got knocked back three steps. There a few things that were wrong so I am now cutting the bad places out, and fiberglassing the new pieces in. Its turning out good, I got one cheek drying now.
I'll post some pictures soon, and more details on whats coming up. I just wanted to post before I forgot.

It's nice to see some Star Wars in this galaxy! do post pictures, I really want to see more!
Keep it up!

Thanks man. Hopefully it will turn out. My goal is to make it so I can cast them out of plastic. But I'm thinking I'm going to one off the suit with pep and fiberglass.
Here's what I got done so far. In these pictures, it's me going thru and marking where I need to fill some more, and when I discovered my face was very wrong.

What I found was wrong was in the mouth area, in between the mic tips, it was poking out, and it needed to curve in and have a lip around where it recesses in. So I just cut it all out.

You also see where I was getting ready to resin over the new piece that will be the cheek area, it need to dip in under the eye mask, and have a cheek bone under the cheek thing. Got one side done and its looking pretty good already, I only had time to set the shape of it, and fiberglass it in place.

To get the cheek bone bump, I put some tape under the paper before I resined it, and before I cut out the opening, then I put some fiberglass cloth one it, then cut the opening and the new piece so that I can push it up from underneath. I use resin with a more hardener than normal to quickly "glue" the piece in and put the nail in to curve the piece inward. Then fiberglassed from behind.

I'm still iffy on what I want to do with eyes and brow line, the eyes are decent but the brow line is pretty off. And not sure about the mic tips.

I saw a cosplay show on scifi channel the other day, and saw the steam punk storm trooper

Hero's of Cosplay is the name of the show (It comes on at 10:00pm eastern after Faceoff (Which is another amazing show)). The steampunk Stormtrooper guy did a Fallout New Vegas Vault Dweller suit the week before and it was pretty awesome. Definitely a great inspirational show haha.

Great work on the helmet so far, can't wait to see it completed!

Hows it going guys, got a bit of an update on the Stormtrooper helmet. I was dragoncon this weekend, and saw a bunch of awsome stuff. A couple guys did McQuarrie Concept stormtroopers and vader. Which were amazing. But back to what I got done, I laid some filler on the new cheeks to see how they will be, and I gave in and just replaced the eyes, or what I'm calling "the mask", just got it fiberglassed in. Still got to pretty it up and fill it alot more.

Hows it going everyone, so after taking a small break from my helmet. I'm back at it. And I have a question for anyone that as done a stormtrooper helmet. Do you know where I can get the dimensions of the helmet? Like I need to know the length of the frown, how wide it is, and how far apart the "teeth" are, and such.
Thanks

Dang thats a cool post, thanks man.

Oh, I had an idea/question for anyone, has anyone use the stuff called magic sculpt? I was thinking of using it in place of bondo in the finishing phase, since you can move it around more easily, and sculpt with it to build up places and make things out it way easier than with bondo. And it still drys to a point where you can sand it smooth.
Has anyone tried this?
