First off, Ithica (SSGT David Wiemert) and family are okay. Thank God.

Rant:

As a Medically Retired Marine, and a civilian who took a contract to serve 15 months in Afghanistan with a K9 unit looking for I.E.D.s and other explosives, I think this is bunk. He was an objector. He didn't want to fight. Well, he wouldn't have fought. He was a pencil pusher... a shrink. People who join the Armed Forces just to get fee schooling are no better than traitors in my book. One report said he tried to get discharched and offered to pay back the cost of the school... the cost of the school? Serving your f'n country is the cost of the school! If you're called to fight, FIGHT!

I, as many other former and current service members, suffer from PTSD. He could have developed a form of that from counciling his troops, sure... but the man was a coward and a traitor to his country, his brothers, and his oath as a medical professional.

There should be no quarter given this man. His name, his religeon? Should be of no consideration. I was picked on when in the Corps... and I sure as hell did my share of ribbing as well... you get picked on for your name, size, music, hair color, lack of hair, where you're from, your momma... the list is endless. At no time did he go through the complaint procedure, so there is no record of it. Did it happen? Who cares?

If you sign the line... if the Government puts you through school... you have an obligation to serve in whatever capacity and where ever on this God forsaken hellhole of a planet you are told to. You are a soldier.

Treason during War time is a firing squad offense. Throwout the window any of the reasons why... toss out the mental condition defense... forget putting him in the brig for years... line 'em up, and send him to whatever God he placates.

It's time for the people of this country to suck up all the "feel good" hippie psycho-babble crap and grow a pair. "He hurt my feelings so I killed 13 people" F you and the horse you rode in on! If this man lives, it sets the standard for all to follow.

And people will follow

And we sit in the handbasket for a ride into Hell.

to put it simply: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KILL, DON'T JOIN THE MILITARY! IF YOU JOIN, YOU WILL KILL... IT'S YOUR JOB!

My dad served nine years and his second duty station was at Ft. Hood and where I spent my first two years. We pray for those killed and injured in yesterdays insanity.

Brutus, I agree with you.

Part of joining the Military is to serve and protect your country, and this guy is a coward. Did he really believe that he can just walk away, tried to get discharge or pay back the cost of school? It's like you said, Serving your country is the cost! It's guys like him that really tear down our military.

Almost all my relatives have served in the Military, and all knew that they had to answer the call.

But this guy? He needs to get what he deserves... :angry

I'm happy to hear Dave is okay, and I'm sorry to hear about the 13 people who died.

I pray that all of those who were wounded will get better, and I'll also pray for all of the families of the 13 who are dead.

Well said man i agree completly, presonaly i think they take it too easy on alot of these people, the murders and rappest, i think they should bring back town sqaure hangings and fireing sqauds, a bullet costs alot less than feeding these bottom feeders. they are trash and need to be treated that way. And i dont care about his religion or where his family came from he needs to be shot by firing sqaud and barried in a un marked grave...

I agree with everything you said Brutus. He signed the contract, he knew what he was getting into. Its not like the military is secretive about what we do. He should be tried and executed as a traitor and murderer. I dont care who he is, or what his religion is. He killed fellow soldiers and countrymen, he deserves no better than the firing squad and a shallow unmarked grave.

I am deeply saddened and embarrassed by the occurrence at fort hood yesterday.

We are soldiers, we are better than that. And to open fire on your brotheren, your family, its just down right disgusting.

My thoughts are with the men, women and families of the wounded and killed soldiers of this incident.

well he signed his life away is what we say here. but thats another story. so what exactly happened im really confused withthe rant. the first thing that through me off was you mentioned dave... was this why he hasnt been on for a while?

my general idea of reading this is some guy got mad he was being shipped out and started shooting in base? kinda dumb if ya think about it. military laws are worse than civilian. leathal injection happens in the canadian military. but its the slow painfull one that lasts for 5 minutes. not many people know about it.

anyways i hope i got that all right!

I live next to Fort Hood, but was at school in San Marcos when this occured. I didn't even get to know about this till about 3pm, from my cousin who lives in Missouri. She'd seen it on the news. I hated being so far away from home, not knowing if one of my family members had been on base when it happend. Thankfully, they called soon after. I'm thankful that my mom delayed her plans to go shopping on base yesterday. I also texted Ithica and Yuki to check in on them. Thanks to Yuki who kept me informed while in class! I just hope that I didn't know anyone who was injured, or even killed. I went to highschool with alot of people who went into the Army and got stationed back here.

I'm just so... I don't know right now. I grew up as an army brat and this is a horrific event. I've experienced accidents where soldiers have died on base, even went to the televised funeral of one. But the death of soldiers by another soldier is just too much.

I'll keep most of my personal opinions to myself but I will say two things. First, is that I doubt this was a spur of the moment action. Years and years of taking flak from the Army can wear anyone down. I've seen it first hand on many post. Second, and regardless of the first statement, I hope they put him on a spit and roast him.

I think it was a bit more than deployment orders. But that was likely the straw that broke the camels back.

I was in class and heard about this from my instructor. Apparently the killer had some very non-American ideals, and he hid a gun. Officers are only issued one pistol, but this dude had two. This was a planned assault. :/

He shouldn't of joined in the first place.. It was said he was trying to get out, sides' he's only a shrink. All a bad bad ending due to a breakdown, I think he also said he was disturbed at some of the soldiers actions'. Military and war are rough, don't even think about the military if you don't plan on killing something at some point..

Stay safe those at the base and hope a speedy and well recovery.

R.I.P to our fallen heroes.

Agreed. Even if you're the guy that hands towels out at the gym (an actual career field in the USAF.... yeah...) they don't have you qualify on small arms for the heck of it. When the rubber meets the road, you may be required to use that thing - even if it is only in self defense. I know the AF rather well and they have that blanket statement of "Fly, fight and win" but anyone that has gone through basic know's the real motto is "to kill people and break their stuff". (Last word edited to make it more kid friendly).

Going into the military as a conscientious objector is like... being a taste tester at Baskin Robbins but being lactose-intolerant. You knew you were going to eventually eat ice cream. What the heck is wrong with you? It wasn't like it was a big surprise.

Ithica recently moved on base with his family, as a result has yet to get internet... he's been out of the loop for awhile.

Thanks for letting us know that Ithica and family is okay Das Brutus, I've been worried ever since I heard the news and when I couldn't see anything on the forum and couldn't get a PM off to Dave (whose inbox is full) it just made me worry more. To hear that they're okay is a major relief.

My thoughts now go out to the families of the soldiers that have been killed, and those that have been injured. I may not be a fan of the war, but I in no way hold it against the brave men and women who have enlisted in the defense forces. For them to be dying overseas is bad enough, but to come under fire and unprepared for it on your own home soil is, horrific.

My deepest sympathies to all that have been affected by this tragedy.

that day all the teachers where talking we didn't know tell we went home. Friday my wood shop teach started talking(they talk allot about news) and he was saying what if .....(forgot leader) planted people in our military to do such things to weaken our military and make people fighting in iraq not trust friends. is this a phycologist that went mad or terror attack?

I'm still trying to figure out why all the VFA Hospital folks in Waco are getting a lot of PTSD research cash out of this (Was in the paper today). The guy had never been deployed right?

Truly a heartrending event and it happened so close to home. I hope that all the families affected will see justice done and soon. Nothing to tie up court precedings like a media frenzy though.

Also- Brutus thanks again for the updates while this was all going down from your texts. Was so relieved to hear that the Weimert clan was all okay.
