Halo 3 Hunter: The Complete Pepakura Collection!!!

The inspiration behind this build was simple. The Hunter. One of my favorite adversaries in the Halo Series. After scouring the web and all kinds of forums, I've yet to see a decent Hunter, mainly because of one problem.....Scale.

There is one major sacrifice when people try to scale up Hunters too much. Range of motion. Which prohibits you from portraying "Hunteresque" movements and getting into character. A Hunter smashing you with it's shield is an iconic motion in the series; I want these models to enable you to move like that. Portray and authentic "combat stance" or that lumbering jog when they first appear. That's the WOW factor. ACTING like a Hunter; moving as they move.

Now, Hunters are made up of worm colonies, and Hunters are said to be as large as a Wraith, but can be as small as a Spartan. So I ask myself, "Why can there be 5'7" tall Spartans, but Hunters have to be at least 8 feet tall?" If we can make an incredibly "short" but proportional Spartan, why not a "shorter" but proportional Hunter? Therefore all of the Pep models I'm developing are built to "human" standards.

I don't remember seeing any HD of these models at the time, so I made some! These should come in handy for all your Mark V builds.

*******SCALING/SIZING INFORMATION*******

After studying the available reference pictures, and measuring, re-measureing, and re-re-measuring myself, I've come up with another set of "Proportionate Ratios" that should help as a reference for anyone who is already attempting to assemble these models.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with my "Proportianate Ratio Equation" familiarize yourself with this thread before attemping this method!

First, make sure you have the *UPDATED UNFOLD* files listed above; had to make some changes due to the original model size being too small.

Halo 3 Hunter Proportionate Ratios:

Helmet - 12.9
Boot - 9.5
Shin - 4.8
Thigh - 4.8
Right Shoulder - 6.4
Left Shoulder - 3.5
*Assault Cannon - 2.45 (INPUT MEASUREMENT IN DEPTH FIELD ONLY)*
Left Gauntlet - 3.9
Shield - 1.6
Spines - 2.85
Stomach Plating - 4.45
COD Piece/TESTER - 5.3
Chest and Back - 2.9

***DISCLAIMER***
THESE ARE REFERENCES ONLY! I have not attempted to assemble these models, yet. And as I warned in my scaling thread, these proportions are conclusions I've drawn from Hunter proportions, as well as ideal sizes for the wearer. If there is any doubt, measure yourself.

Good luck, and hope to see some progress threads soon!

Welcome back, abrant3!

I appreciate the ID4 reference in your thread title but would like to note that it's not necessary to create a new thread to introduce or reintroduce yourself (in fact, I believe it is prohibited to do so). Perhaps you could add directly to this thread when you commence your work to morph it from an introduction thread into a build thread.

Good luck blazing...looking forward to seeing the fire!

Your Youtube videos are what inspired me to build my costumes, and were a tremendous help. When I watched your finished suit video the first time that was the personal goal I set for myself..." I want to make a Halo suit as good as that". I've seen plenty of older members leave here, and often wonder why I'm still posting, but it is very refreshing to see such a talented artist come back to the boards.

You have to be living in Alabama to be working at a Bama Fever. You near the Birmingham area or am I totally off? McCalla here...

hey, long time no see :) You planning to build anything new sometime soon? Can't wait to see it if so.

my cousin is a bit on the larger side (6'9" and 250lbs) and he's been wanting to do a halo build after seeing my reach build, but didnt want a spartan because he always favored the covenant. i think this build will be perfect for him! thank you sir, this work is amazing!

Wow! Almost 7 feet tall? Seems like scale won't be a problem for him! I think it would work great as well!

I just finished the Left Gauntlet that attaches to the Shield, so all that's left is the Chest/Back/Spines, COD Piece, and Stomach Plating, and I'm done. I'll update the post with another vid as soon as they're done.

Thats pretty awesome, because hunters stand around 8 feet tall in a combat stance, and if he is 6'9 plus some big armor could make him large for a hunter :D

speak of the devil me and my friends were talking about "it would be cool if there were hunter pep files" THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy. Crap. That's awesome! I'd love to get my hands on those files! I love Hunters, almost as much as I love Elites. This would be amazing for me while I'm waiting on Resin to arrive and if I wanna take a break from Spartan pieces.

O.....M.....F......GOD!
you are a legend. right now iam having a mixture of a lol, a rofle a lmao, a lmfao and rofbiaof*
just pure legend. hope to see these finnished. kinda want hunter shield to scale for a bust/trophie.

* rolling on the floor because im actually on fire

Welcome back good sir! IMHO, I think most of the hunter costumes thus far have been lacking size. If you want to do this right and make jaw drops, I would certainly shoot for a 7 foot tall Hunter, and make it nice and wide. I know Pete Mander did a 9ft elite, and you could possibly get some tips from him. Part of what made the Hunters so awesome is that they're way bigger than you, and I think portraying that is important. But whatever your decisions I wish you luck, and am excited to see some pics once you get the ball rolling!

This kind of describes to me what a hunter is and should be:
Hunter4.jpg

Like I said in the introduction, I have seen many "attempts" to try and scale a Hunter up to 7 or 8 feet. It basically becomes a really bad puppet show. I suppose that method would work a little better, now that I'm trying to contribute some decent looking models.

But there is one major sacrifice when people try to scale up Hunters too much. Range of motion. Which prohibits you from portraying "Hunteresque" movements and getting into character. A Hunter smashing you with it's shield is an iconic motion in the series; I want these models to enable you to move like that. Portray and authentic "combat stance" or that lumbering Hunter jog when they first appear. That's the WOW factor. ACTING like a Hunter; moving as they move.

So just size these pieces to fit YOU. We make 5'7" Spartans, why not 6'3" Hunters? Or even shorter? Of course, it would be awesome for someone who is really tall and big to do a Hunter build....

But, that's just my opinion.

Hey everyone! Just got an account at 4shared.com and linked all of the finished pep files in my original post. Check 'em out, and let me know what you think!
