So I have C2E2 in Chicago in one month, and as much as I love my spartan suit, it can be very difficult to wear for long periods of time. So with that in mind I have decided to build a Halo 3 marine!

The helmet will be a cast, and I will also be attempting the Black undersuit/shirt thing they wear under the armor. The rest will be foam hopefully as detailed as I can make it (within about a month window). I have unfolded a new set of files that I will make available at the conclusion of the build.

So far I have the chest unfolded and will be starting construction tomorrow.

Lets see how this goes! Wish me luck!

Stepping out for a bit so its update time!

I started with the center piece of the chest plate and worked outwards, beveling all of my edges as I went.

Once that piece was done I worked on the side pieces of the chest plate, carving and cutting spots for the chest webbing on either side of the center plate and the divot on the bottom corners.

From there it was on to the side straps which I will seperate under the arms to take the chest on and off.

After attaching the trim to the top I grabbed my dremel and rounded out the edges.

And thats where Im at so far, 4/12 pages of pep finished!

Alright so I hammered through the rest of the upper back today, ALMOST knocked it out today but i have plans so the last bit will have to wait for tomorrow.

1 and 1/2 pep sheets left!

Had a free weekend so I figured Id crack away at it. Little upset I wasnt able to finish this piece today, but I still have just over a month so it should be ok

Alright, got back from a a night out and forced myself NOT to crank out the rest of this piece. I did however cut the rest of the templates and trace them to foam so I should be good to go tomorrow!

It sucks when you have to stop yourself from doing more work when you have caught the building bug haha.

Hoping to have at least the chest and shoulders done by the end of the week. I have to wait on my combat boots to come in so I can do the shin guards/ knee piece due to sizing around the boots.

I did just come to the conclusion there really isnt much to the Marine armor... maybe I should should shoot for a 2 week speed build instead of a month

This DOES give me the time I need to prototype out the Vest/undersuit section of the armor though, using reference material provided by NobleofDeath16 and Cadet, I will be attempting it. From what I can tell it looks very similar to one of those Velco kevlar vests military personel, cops, and your ordinary chicago resident wears.

iac300 has gone through a few iterations of H3 Marine and might have some good insight on real world plate carriers to use as a base.

For the under vest on my marine I went with a Condor Cyclone plate carrier and a Condor gen II battle belt and a cheap pistol belt I found at a surplus store. For the shoulders I made them out of some umpire vest arm pads and slapped some Velcro on them. I took advantage of the Velcro sections to attach my foam armour directly to the plate carrier to avoid it shifting during cons

Oooooooo that definitely gives me some ideas for construction. Im shooting to do as much of this out of foam as I can to keep cost down, and I will be skinning the vest and sleeve section in black fabric so it has that different texture from the rest of the foam armor.

Solid plan man! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

It might also be worth looking at how WETA did the Marines for "Landfall." This thread from 2009 actually has a bunch of intact picture links to the Marine armor used in the short and other promotional displays.
