WOW rvb18 that's so cool that someone's actually gonna build my amor! I'm so excited and I'm not even building it! Now I know how the other 3D modelers feel when someone uses their creations. PLEASE keep me posted! I wanna see how it turns out. If you want me to edit the file to make it easier to use, please PM me. Also, can you unfold it for the community? (Do you have a paid copy of Pep Designer?)

I don't think I have time to make my own Pepakura Unfolding Tutorial (it might not exactly belong in this threat anyway). But here's a YouTube vid that might help you out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7LiWPS9rs8. I'd google it for more answers. I just use 3DModelWindow --> Edit Mode --> Pick Open Edges. Highlighting Open Edges will turn them orange, and just click them again to turn them back. Open Edges are edges that form the borders of each individual unfolded piece of the model. It may take from practice, so HERE (*clicky*) is a simple 3D model you may want to try unfolding (or just use one of the sample models which come free with Pepakura). (You will want to choose "Flip" when you open up the model)

im sry i dont have a pay for version but i do know how to un fold so il just do my thing ( i usally reunfold every one's files any way so big wup) oh and the one thing i would change is the upper part of it, it looks a little narrow but il find out soon. if it is il fix it with some spare card stock and some sissors lol

Good idea. Yeah, being around 5-foot-5, I usually have to rescale other people's models too. I'm really glad you want to build this. I'd love to see some progress pics at some point, but don't feel rushed. Maybe you could build one piece at a time and upload some pic. I guess we'll see how it turns out. Maybe you'll be the first to build one.

By the way, I just noticed that, in the smallest, middle piece, I did not remove the back two pieces (making it much harder to put together because there won't be any openings). Feel free to cut out those back to faces and just leave it open. It may be easier to glue together.

Remember to post what dimensions/scale you used when you printed it so we all have a good size to start with. Also, if it's easier just to unfold one piece at a time, I can upload each piece separately (might be a bit more organized. Just a thought)

i see im about 6 foot, i think that i should use my markVI scale of 32 cm so il remesure and check back later. btw it will be a while be for pics i meens a while my mother doesn't like me using here camera. ;)

I cant unfold the model. I don't have the pay version. (I'm not going to pay)
But when I can get a chance to make those shoulder pieces, I'll buy a camera and upload them ASAP.

By the way, my ODST helmet is coming along great. (y)

It's all good. Like I said, take your time. If it means the model will turn out better, take all the time you need. As for the camera, maybe you could ask just to take a few (3-4) digital pictures or maybe use a webcam, if you have one. Don't bother your parents just so I can see the model. I'm just glad someone will give the armor a chance.

Here's my attempt at unfolding this. I just eyeballed the scaling, so you guys will probably have to tweak the size anyway. Let me know if you guys run into any problems.

WOW! Mr Oreo, that unfolding looks GREAT! None of the pieces look too complicated, and the layout (although it could be compressed a tad bit) looks great! And you even uploaded the file. Bravo. This should be added to the Pepakura Wiki Index (if people like it). Thanks a lot, man, I didn't even ask you to do this! It looks to me as if we're going to need to scale this thing up (I had imagined those large side plates with the holes on the upper-most piece to be a bit larger, but maybe it's just the picture. The model's lookin better already!

UPDATE: I'm close to done with modeling the sniper plates (read above) as an expansion to this shoulder armor. I'll post the .obj model soon after testing it, and if someone (I probably shouldn't ask you to do any more, but if you, Mr Oreo, could try unfolding these less-detailed pieces, maybe we could make this model a bit more official) could unfold those pieces (i guess to be printed in a different file), it would look 2x as cool!

Thanks for all the help I've gotten from everyone on this little project, guys! Just goes to show how much we can do if we all work together!

That would be fun. Oreo seems to be pretty fast at the whole unfolding process. Wouldn't be a bad idea. I think I'm gonna do the big chest-pack piece next. REQUEST any ODST pieces before I go off doing random models that nobody will use.

UPDATE: I'm gonna post the final ODST Shoulder Amor Pepakura File (yes, giving credit to MrOrea for the unfolding) as well as my latest piece, the ODST SNIPER SHOULDER PLATE SET, in the Creation Discussion --> Pepakura Forum. I'll post links to it once I make the final post. I'll post some picutres of the new model once I test it in Pepakura.

Woohoo !! Once completed ... that suit is gonna be LEGEN ... wait for it ... DARY

Thanks for your enthusiasm and support, guys! It's great to know that people are just waiting to build the new models.

UPDATE: THE SNIPER SHIELDS ARE COMPLETE! ONCE MrOreo123 UNFOLDS THE MODEL, I WILL MAKE A THREAD (if the mods allow me) IN THE PEP FORUM WITH DOWNLOAD LINKS TO EACH MODEL, PICS, SKETCHES, ETC

I hope that MrOreo will complete unfolding the file soon, if he chooses to (I PMed him the link). I never thought I'd get involved in stuff this quickly. Now that we have a real Pepakura model available (thanks to MrOreo), we juuuustt miiigght be able to get these models into the Pepakura Wiki Index (that would be totally awesome!)

Here's a sneak-peek at the sniper shields (I only had a small picture for reference, so please forgive any inaccuracies):

I put the shields in a separate file, but kept the middle piece from the original model to make for easier scaling (the shields are placed on top of the original pieces)

Very, very excited,

Shade

PM sent. I don't mind taking a crack at these, but I have to do them during my lunch breaks at work, because my home computer crashes pretty frequently. Anyone want to donate to my new computer fund? j/k...mostly. ;)

OK, guys, a better sneak-preview is now on the 405th:

PS - MrOreo I will invert the plate and re-PM you the .obj file ASAP

hey night shade again great job! got it downloaded and many thanks to your unfolding talents mr oreo coincidentally my favorite cookie I'll be watching this with great anticipation

I'm so excited that you're excited! I think we'll all see how this little project unravels.

UPDATE: The lower sniper shield has undergone some minor repairs. I had to reverse the normals normals on the polygon mech (technical jargon), or else Pepakura would have placed the tabs outside of the model. Also, I wont be able to be online much tommorrow because I have the SAT in the morning (bummer. I'm prepared, but wish me luck) and have one or two others things I have to do. I'll get back to everybody ASAP (tomorrow night-ish)

Once the sniper sheild expansions are ready for download (and I've made an official Halo 3 ODST thread in the Pep Forums), I'll need a new project to start, so throw out any suggestions! (If there's a decent amount of reference pics)

Cheers!

Shade
