How To Scale Your Armour - Tutorial

I can't really help you. I don't know your height, your build, or what method you chose to use. As soon as I know those things, I will help you out.

I love the tutorial! Here's my recommendations to make it better!

1) Name each method so they are quickly identifable.

2) Put a header on each section so Noobs like me can see the break in methods.

3) Rate the Difficulty and Accuracy of each method.

Other than that this is great. I am going to try it on my next Pep.

Awesome, thanks for the credit they look great! Now to something fun I created for your tutorial.

I've created a file in Excel that should help with Method #1. See if it works.

Pepakura Conversion Kit:

.xls file

Pepakura Conversion Kit

.xlsx file

Pepakura Conversion Kit

The idea was to take your math and put it in a form that is easy to use.

All you have to do is insert numbers in the red boxes and Tada, you end up with the proper Pep Scaling Numbers to achieve a perfect fit for any height.

It's not perfect, builders still have to measure an image or a model like Method #1 states, However, they should be able to measure a complete model, collect the numbers and quickly find all the Pep numbers for a full suit of armor!

Let me know if it works for you and I'd like to know what you think.

Peace

Ok, well, just use the third scaling method for that, it should work just fine. Your 70 inches tall, so use the scale 70.000000. then follow the steps for the rest of the tutorial.

Good luck!

You know the more I think about this the more I think it can be imporved ever further.

xtreme, if we took the best reference pictures and did the measurements for scale we could lock in the proportional sizes and people would just need to insert their height into my excel and calculate the exact millimeters for any person for any armor.

Once the proportional scale has been determined for a model or armor the only varible needed is the height of the person going to wear it. I really like method #1. At first it looks complicated but I think few of us could quickly generate the reference pictures scales and then I could create an excel worksheet containing all the formulas.

What do you think?

This could be a really nice application in the end.

Well, there is a problem with that idea. I love the idea, but it may not be worth the work. Like, my scaling methods are really, other then Method 2, not ment for non-Halo armour. Halo armour is, other then the master chief armour, compleatly human friendly. But, you have to take into account a few things. Not everybody here has perfactly preportionate arms and legs. Some of us have really long legs and arms, and a short body. Some of us are the other way around. You also have to take into account the fact that some of us are "rounder" then others. In the end, its not really worth it because of all of the diferances. Eventually, both me and you woul be fooded with PM's asking whats wrong with the armour scaling.

Once again, I really love the idea, but it isn't the greatest thing to do. Lets just let everybody mess around with the tutorials steps and let them figure out what method works best for them.

Awe, raining on my parade! :lol But that's true... It would only work for a standardize group but non-typical body types would have to customize their armor because of the size differences.

But theoretically, one could also measure each of their own appendages and find scale that is exactly proportional to their body type. This wouldn't create an exact replica but at least it would fit comfortably. :lol

The way Pepakura scales objects if you are say larger in the waist you could scale based on width rather than height. But there would still be discrepancies in the final proportions. Yet again a person who is 5'9" with a huge waist isn't going to be in proportion to the armor anyway and they have to know this so I think a standardize group may find something like this useful.

Granted, you are again right, I really don't think I need all the PMs asking why it doesn't work. :)

I still like your methods the best, easy to understand and very user friendly. I'd vote in the poll again if I could!

Peace,

Yea, sorry for the confusion Yuki-Kedamono. I only moved it here because the Noobs can access it far more easily, and because of one other little secret thing.

ohhh a secret thingy? i totally love secret thingies... er... i mean secrets. lol

but regardless, the methods you give helped me alot so i'd panic if they dissapeared cause i didn't really right down the formula that i used XD an i'm even worse at keeping tabs of something like that.

Actually, I have multiple secrets. I will be posting them soon (mid September I hope, or earlier), so keep an eye open. as for the secret suprise for this thread, it should be revieled sometime within the next month. So, keep an eye out for that.

Remember everybody, If you have ANY questions about scaling, feel free to shoot me a PM. I will be more then happy to help you out in any way I can.

Cheers!

this is an excellent guide in my opinion but i just got into wanting to start doing a halo armor aka the MC one but im total noob to it so i have no idea how to find anything in any of the pepa programs so it would help if you could maybe type up a guide for total noobs because everyone neglects how to find all the options for converts like cm to mm or what not and where to actually find the scaling option etc etc

Everything you need to know on how to scale is in there. It says where to find the scaling options, and tells you how to scale the armour 3 differant ways.

I really need to know why this is not stickied. This is a question everyone runs into and makes for a great tutorial. So if any admins are looking at this please sticky this for everyone's sake.

this helped me some much tyvm i hope it worked though i used mtethod 3 im just cuting everythng else but if i hadent read this i wouldnt of even printed ty.
