Hey Sharkhead, good to see you back on the forums.

This new version looks sick!

Thank you! ^^

I hope I can construct this helmet as well as you've constructed yours!

Btw, I bought the EL sheet lights online, they should be in War Machine soon :D

Sweet, the electronics for the eyes is quite simple but send me a message if you need any help.

just one thinking sorry :(

you see the 2 drops at the beck of the helmet shouldn't there be 3 like photo 2 ?

Actually no, the top trapezoid is just a line cut into the helmet, then the second one down is recessed into it, then the last one is cut completely out and the neck vertebrae fits into it. I didn't cut the last one out in the pep file for stability purposes, but it should be when it's all resined and fiberglassed.

You can kinda see what I'm talking about in this picture, though it's not too clear.

I've looked at every angle of the helmet imaginable to make sure this thing is as accurate as it's gonna get :)

Going to have to disagree with ya on that. The pic you have posted is the mark 4or5 bust not the mark 3. There is supposed to be a top section above the cut line. ;)

Both of those pictures have recessed parts at the top. It's just hard to see in the one Sharkhead posted. I think sharkhead was getting at the point that it'd be easier just to do the last one after you're done with pepping/hardening since it's so shallow. If he wasn't saying that, he should have been ;)

Yeah, technically it is there, but it's such a shallow recession that it's negligible. The ridges that they sit on are pretty thin, and the trapezoid area is reduced to 1/2 the width of the ridge. But you are right, it would be MUCH easier to cut the trapezoid shape and sand the inside of it a little, or else you would have to pep a ridge piece like 1mm wide lol.

What I meant when I said it's not recessed I meant it's not like the middle ridge, as it was when Dungbeetle put out his file. I believe his was like that because of the fact it was made to mimic the scan of the toy that someone made a long time ago.

Sorry, should have specified, it is there but it's very shallow and physically can't be pepped.

And unheared don't apologize :p

It's because of people like you that the helmet came out this good.

I'm ashamed to show it, but the model originally looked like this

Heheh, thanks guys for being observant!

EDIT: Beautiful unfold dubean! I'm assembling it right now and it's going very quickly and smoothly. Also, anyone interested should try Bristol board (art paper). Stronger than cardstock paper ;)

haha thanks man, i became a big fan of Mr. Oreo's unfolds because of their simplicity, so i try to mimic that as best i can.

The art paper is a good idea! i've been thinking about other types of paper you could use and had a similar idea. Glad to know it works well.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the suits all change, but the helmet stays the same for the Mark 2,3,4, and 6. Mark 5 (the suit that comes out of a suitcase) should be the only one that changes the helmet shape a little. :)

But thank you, I am very proud of my model, and have dungbeetle to thank for the wicked looking back section. ^^

Aha, I knew that style of unfolding looked familiar! lol.

He must have unfolded for a dungbeetle helmet I checked out or somethin'.

Eh, kinda? It's differently proportioned, since Dungbeetle's file was based off the toy and mine was off the Sideshow bust. His is longer and skinner, mine's shorter and fatter, generally near the same size.

Wow, great job! I have a question if you don't mind. Which version is more movie accurate?

hey , this is an amazing model. Theres just a few things that struck me, the chin area isnt raised in the model and there is some ridge on the jaw that can only be seen when looking from down up.

Great model again, looks almost a perfect match to the IM movie pics
