So with con season pretty much over for me and all my new costumes for the year are done, I decided to work on other side projects that aren't costumes while working on various commissions (to keep me entertained, because working on only one thing at a time is boring)

I actually got this idea back when I moved into my old place few months ago, but am now finally deciding to do it.

I'm making the legendary symbol, but as a huge mantle to hang on my walls. :D
If there's enough interest for purchase, I might sell some afterwards, but until then, my beginnings of my mantle!

Printed out references (the skull one is for reference for the top of the shield, not like you'll technically see it under the elite's skull... But it makes me happy knowing I did it right) and scaled everything out. Top to bottom, each shield half is 26 inches.

Two halves cut out (minus the curvy bits, I'll do that with a dremel later when it's less wet outside, or I'm not lazy. :p) and scaled the swords. The sword with the markings is accurate and the one I'll be using, the other I quickly and roughly cut out just so I can see what it'll look like with two.

And spent the last two days sculpting the main part of the skull. The eye are pretty even fyi, it's just the lighting. Next is to add some texture to make it realisticy as well as carve out the bullet hole in it's head. Maybe will fix up it's mouth part a little more.

Actually looking at the bulge of the skull.. I actually see something wrong with the shape... I'll fix that too.

Wow! This looks amazing! I really wanna make one now so that I can hang it over my bed. xD
Or you could support me and buy of my mine when I'm done. ;P I need funding for future projects. :D

Fixed the bump in the skull, the mouth, and eyes. Then added texture (just dabbed with a sponge to it isn't streaky) (The eyes ARE straight and junk, just the light...)

Close up of the bullet hole. I didn't smooth the inside of it on purpose, to give it a realistic look.

I don't like rushing things. This project is one of the few I get to work on at my own lazy pace and really take my time getting the details and such right. Good luck with yours though.

Last layer of rubber applied.

Forgot to take a picture of the raw pull, but heres the head all painted and finished (minus the mandibles).

I'm not 100% sold on the paint job... To me it just looks weird...
Because the shading on the picture, is 3D shading meant to make a 2D image look 3D. Where as this, IS a 3D object with that same shading; to me it doesn't make sense. Yet at the same time, not everyone has that low lighting with a spot like ON the skull to give it the same lighting for irl. I'll probably offer the skulls painted in a number of ways (one being like this, another just a flat white/grey, etc, one with blood splatters, etc)

Personally, if you don't mind my opinion, I think the color for shading should be a brown instead of a grey. Bones have more of a brown tint to them than a grey tint. But it's looking great, keep it up! :)

Not necessarily, the tint would depend on how old the bone is. A fresh skull would be sparkling white where as a skull that's maybe 10 years old will be tinted brown, the older the more. Also would depend on if it's been in the ground (like covered in dirt), or sitting on a shelf in the sun, etc. There's many different ways as to why a skull is a certain colour.
I might add a little brown here and there, maybe, we'll see.
