Hey mate,

Great job on the SMG so far! I really like how it turned out!

As Boba Fett had pointed out, you should use resin or bondo to make the SMG a little more cleaner. However, I disagree.

Being one of the more knowledgeable members here when it comes to cardboard, I know that regular, un-reinforced cardboard can not properly support resin or bondo. You need to reinforce the cardboard first by adding a precision made "coating" with cereal box board. Something like I did with my Weta version Battle Rifle. (Please forgive the picture, I hope I'm not steeling your thread).

If you do things right, I have discovered you can completely pass the bondo stage all together. However, if you need bondo, mix up some thick rondo (20% resin, 80% bondo and use the cream hardened the bondo comes with). Also be sure to not sand down to the cardboard. Trying to get the fluffiness out of your finished weapon is really hard to do if you sanded right down to the cardboard, and will effect the overall look of your prop.

Also, try to avoid the double, triple and so on posting. Use the "Multi Quote" button or simply edit your last post. Double posting could get you a warning or banned.

Anyway, good luck with the rest of your project, and your projects to come.

Cheers!

Haha, sorry... I didn't see that. but yeah, thank you for pointing that out.

If you noticed, that's what I said. But Resin WILL do the job. I've tested it out on several small cardboard projects of mine, and it makes it smoother. I believe the best solution is to use the un-corrugated cardboard to finish it, then resin over the top of that for a hard, smooth finish that's perfect for painting. Un-sealed cardboard really drinks up the paint, and isn't as hard. Also, try not to multi-post to reply to people. Just type in @Boba Fett or @WRising. The angry blue monkey is on the prowl for multi-posters... friendly warning! :)

Thanks for the heads up!

That's what I did on my AR. I used Bristol Board instead though.

To the OP: Looks good man! I see we have another Cardboard magician here ;)

I'm thinking of doing an SMG next. Small, simple(r), and cool looking. That is if I can finish my current projects.

EDIT:

Haha! Good old Belakor...

Awesome, let me know how it turns out.

I must say that looks VERY good for cardboard. I made my ODST Dare chestplate out of cardboard. Came out decent, but I had a little accident and now I don't know if I ever want to try making something from scratch again! XD But doing it from scratch allows you to make it completely how you want it without having to find the perfect pep file! :p

If you can be this good with cardboard, I would really like to see how the helmet turns out if and when you decide to make it. :)

i have, just check my galleries.

I just saw your pic on the front page, then I cruised through your albums, and all I can say is wow! Seriously man, you have a great deal of talent and patience (<-- my biggest problem with cardboard) when working with cardboard. In some cases, cardboard results in a lesser quality piece; however, you've created higher quality pieces than what most people (myself included) can usually do with pepakura. I'd also like to say that your ODST helm is fantastic! For still being of member status, you have done some elite work here.

I bestow a cookie upon you.

amazing job, any chance for a quick tutorial on how you made the moving stock piece?

not too sure, pretty hard to explain, but really simple to figure out.
