I've been thinking on this for the last 2 years after I've seen the parade each year since I was a kid. Not only do we costume game characters but also figurines from the Halo Universe if you think about it. Other fan groups have been in parades like the 501st at the Rose Bowl parade but to my knowledge the 405th has'nt done any huge parade like Macys or the Rose Bowl parade. What if we could get together a large group of members for the 2011 Macys Thanksgiving Day one, if would give everyone until then to build a costume and we could all gather in NYC for the parade. What do you other members think of this? The one thing I could see with this is we would want the 405th to look our very best in costume, probably no low def pep builded Halo costumes, but costumes that are really good HD builds and molded suits would be best for it. We even have a Warthog, a half way done Banshee, a Scorpion in progress (Bevbor), and even a Arbiter in existance. And with the talent on here we could even build a float that could even be used in future parades like D*C for instance. Sure a lot of us do charity, conventions, but this would be something that could be talked about for ages if we could be in the Macys parade. I already have the application which if we do this it would have to be sent in by April 1st and after reading the application there's no cost that I can see to be involved in the parade. So what do you members think of a gathering of the 405th in NYC for the Parade next year?

if i can get there and have a suit i will be,
also has bevbor made a thread for the scorpion yet if so link please

i would LOVE to go, but i need to find transportation...i'm pretty sure that it costs an arm and a leg to fly from Miami to New York! D:

...oh and I need to finish my armor and save up some cash as well :(

This is'nt quite a sign-up list yet, if you want to say that you want to do it fine but I'm not adding any names to a list yet, I made this as more of a do you have any ideas to contribute to it kind of thing.

The 501st usually have about 40 as a minimum for showing. They've showed here in Cincy for March of dimes with about 200 members fully dressed as Storm troopers and had a very well done Darth Vader at their lead; Those guys pay for license numbers too.

I would definitely be up for this.
A chance to Be in the Parade would put me seriously into build mode. I'm just lolly gagging now cause I have no due date.

Is it Possible the Hog would be ready then?
We would need A Banner or a Flag. I know somebody on here has a thread for a flag.

Depending on their tolerances, we'll probably be "unarmed" (Propwise that is)
Since we do Model other prop-suits, Will we have to stick with Halo or should we go with our our own as long as it of good quality?

AHA! To the workbench!

o___o I wish I could afford a trip like that. I've never been to the east coast, let alone New York. My armor will by done by spring, but I guess I'll have to wait and see if I get lucky.

As for ideas, what about a Mongoose or two? Seriously, has anyone built one? I keep thinking they'd be loads easier (and cheaper) to build than a Warthog.

Goosebot5000 has a Mongoose I believe but it's currently broke down last I checked, Adam has a banner for the 405th it was used at D*C this year. There's already one Warthog in existance I just don't know if this parade possibly is a go if they could bring it over with them for it. Bevbor also has his Banshee which could be used on a float for instance. Honestly a year from now should be plenty time for people to build a High-Def or buy a molded suit. If enough intrest get's into ths thread a sign up list might be created for people who can definatly make a suit and can get to NYC. While the 405th is in NYC for the parade we could even do a quick NYC tour as a group before we all head back to our states.

Man, why does all the cool stuff have to be in the US all the time?

If you participate, please do take pictures :)

If we do this will just be halo suits or some others in there too. Also this would be great publicity for the site

I think establishing a base requirement for suit quality is a good idea. And if it was me, I would keep it strictly halo related. If we could establish that it was a going to be a quality event I would be up for it.

I know im new and all. But i would MOST definatly be up for that. My MK6 is all HD and will be done before Spring. I like the idea of a float, I am very good at set building as well. If we do get this going i would like to volunteer to help. I think this is a VERY good idea for more than one reason. It gives a chance for new and existing memers a chance to meet up in one place and hang out so to speak. Good looking out Nintendude

I would be in for it. An epic event like this might be reason enough for me to buckle down and go OCD on my build. :p

I think we would need a Guilty Spark or 2 as well... :D

I am SO in! I just started my High-def odst last month, SO I should have it done before then! I may have my jun suit done by then, but if I dont I still have my High-def odst. I have watched the parade every year since I can remember! I think it would be great to get together 405th members for this!

Requirements I feel would qualify as a suit if the parade would be a go.
- High-Def Pepakura Spartan suits are fine, Low-Def suits are not unless you can make them look real good, either way you're suit would be approved by person suited enough to make the approval, if not good enough the person making the approval could point out what needs done to improve and be re-approved.
- Molded Suits are perfectly fine, Muckle or otherwise I think is fine. You still need approved.
- Vac-Formed Suits such as Vrogys Marine Suits are the best out there in my opinion but molded Marine armor is good as well, No Pepakura Marine armor whatsoever unless you can make it good enough to pass approval.
- Partial Suits, I've heard of people here in parades wearing just a helmet in the parade that's going to not get you approved right off the back.
If you need to know where to get parts from to make a suit I have a full list of pepakura builders and armor casters.
Either myself or if I can find someone that I feel would be good for approving members for the parade event, we want our group to look our very best. That's the top priority. If we do the parade for Macys with approval from them we would practice the marching lines the day before it would get started. I am right now in talks with the Macys Parade people to find out about props in the parade but more than likely it will either be no weapons or they will have to be fixed such as the pistol on your belt or the Assault Rifle on the back of your armor, I'll be in talks at a future point involving a place for marching practice. Keep a eye on this thread for future updates.
