What does MP3 supposed to stand for?
I know it means Music Player 3, but why the three? Third in the line? The cost? What?

Or just because it sounds better?

Mp3 stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 m and p coming from mpeg, and the 3 from being the 3rd layer of audio compression, it's popular because it is highly compressed, but replicates uncompressed sound quality.

It just means a type of code that it uses.

no music player needed.

MP4 is usually movies. MP3 is usually tunes.

well when dealing with files you guys got it right on. but in layers Mp3 it tunes ect while Mp4 is tunes movies pics ect

Mp4 is actually mpeg4 video. Mp just a short version without the eg. Compressed video, usually at small sizes and resolutions for ipods, psp's and etc.
