Finished the resin on the outside, its still not as hard as I'd like and pretty sticky (its freezing cold so it will probs take a lot longer to dry) I'm leaving it outside -shed- over night to dry and tomorrow I'm going to put in the fiberglass on the interior and possibly one more coat of resin on the outside. Maybe I'll sneak out tonight and finish it off ... hmmm

I'm having one minor problem however, the paper/card stock I'm using is thinner than I would like and the edges at the bottom of the helmet (where you put your neck in) are warping a little and arent holding their shape entirely, it is still a little too bendy and flexible than I'd like, hopefully though any problems this causes can be sorted out with a little more fiberglass or even covered up and sanded out with bondo later on. As of right now, I'm a little worried about what it will look like tomorrow, and tired, and still pretty pleased. I'm learning alot through experience, and that resin is damn messy!!!!

So for now, heres another 2 pictures while I work on the chest piece (pep) and college assignments and cleaning up around the house.

Can't wait to see more progress, your build is looking really promising! =] I know how you feel with the cold- it's absolutely freezing in the UK all the time... My first resining experience was sat and waiting for it to dry for 2 days :(

No way two days!!! TT_TT rats, and its winter over here, and the shed Im working in is like an industrial kinda thing for tractors, so it barely keeps the rain and cold out, I was gonna put the helmet in my garden shed (which is closer to home and smaller and a little better insulated) but the guys locked up while I was back at my house for a break, Im shittin' it about oging over tomorrow, Helmet could have vapourised or anything hahaha

Thank you so much, gosh even my friends over here who dont even play halo are dying to see this progress, pressure-much haha I hope I can live up to everyones expectations, Im really super flattered and excited, I didnt know I could even do this sorta thing but now I am -btw if this helmet screws up, I'm just gonna start again, live and learn-

Also, the chest piece in HD is a b!tch, detail over-kill here haha, Im STILL cutting and folding parts, but I'm on the last page or two then its just a matter of putting things together like a jigswa puzzle and super-glu and hot gluing everything for extra strength.

A bit more to go but ... getting there ... BACK TO WORK!!! :D

Looking good so far hun. If you do find warping occurs then if you can get your hands on a heat gun they work wonders at fixing it. I know how you feel with the cold at the moment. I am in the south of the UK and it is known for its cold here too :( that's why my fibre glass/bondo build is on hold. Plus foam builds are so much cheaper.

Thats sad to here about your helmet, but hey things happen and I'm sure it'll be fine so long as no one finds and wants it. Naw I'm just kidding. Anyway your progress is coming along very smoothly. Great Job so far I'll be watching this one...

P.S. I agree the chest is a beast...I'm currently working on one too!

The chest piece is always a doozy. And trying to keep things aligned for any piece is a major pain in the ass. If you find out that the helmet doesn't work out, try using wooden batons (aka popsicle sticks) and use them as extra reinforcement before you resin.

And if you think two days of waiting for resin to cure is bad, once when I was working on my MC suit (and it was winter), I didn't put enough hardener in the resin mix and I ended up waiting a week for the resin to fully cure with no tackiness. It's crazy stuff.

Yeah. Im gonna put tooth pics and lolly sticks and stuff in some of the weaker edges and folds before another layer of resin, its not bad looking, Im just a bit of a perfectionist lol, nothing a bit of bondo and sanding wont fix haha
The chest piece is a b!tch, I've been cutting it out for 2 days and its taking about 2 days to put together again, I'll get there eventually, thanks again guys!
I Have more pics!! Its starting to come together aint it!!! I have the shoulder/arm parts of the chest piece half attatched since I took this photo but Im in college now so I cant upload a pic since its at home lol

Catch ya later

awesome,
there are a lot of girls making master chief armor :p
maybe you all have a master chief fetish XD no offence.
keep up the good work

Oh my god, a girl at 405th! Everyone, send a friend request!!!

Just kidding, but seriously, cool armor! I've just finnished building my helmet, but not as nearly cool as yours. Keed up the good work!

Oh gosh stop haha, I was talking to a guy who loves skyrim, i havent played it yet -I can barely afford gas for my car to drive to college- but Ive heard these jokes about arrow to the knee and stuff, so he posts a picture of a skyrim dude and some chinese writing -he speaks chinese now- and I asked him was it about the arrow to the knee thing and he said -and I quote- "If you played Skyrim you'd know, but you're too busy sucking Masterchief's nipples!"
He was kidding of course, but I guess girls may have a Chief fetish xD haha
I love chief because he's chaste like me :D YAAAAY Master Chief says NO to promiscuous sex!!

and yeah I've been getting a load of friend adds since I joined (like 5 in two days o_O I didnt expect that)

Thanks everyone, I'll do more work over the weekend and my day off , at the moment I'm tackling college work from now till April/May then I'll be working non-stop through June while my friends are sitting their final exams, then roll on summer!!!

You're pep is coming along nicely. And yes a heat-gun and/or a blow-dryer should straighten you're helm out. As for you're drying problem, Build a hot-box using a large cardboard box and work light. This will take the temp up to about 70 and will add you in curing time. I hope this helps, and keep us posted.

This chest thingy wants to kill me TT_TT If Ive said it once I#'ve said it a billion times

DETAIL OVERKILL
DETAIL OVERKILL
DETAIL OVERKILL

...

I hate it now ... but i will love it later lol xD thanks guys, back to work for me, just figured out my lecturer is sick so no college tomorrow, yknow what that means!!! ARMOUR!!! Since I came home and done assignments tonight to let me off the hook tomorrow -oh yeah!! Karma win!-

dang looks great =D
i recommend that you don't resin or bondo when it is below 60 degrees because that resin wont dry or harden properly and could cause warp to your helmet or whatever piece of armor, if it is really cold outside i would also recommend that you put a heater in your gurage or wherever you are resining
hope this helped :)

Im using my uncles tractor shed and it is really cold ... and has no electricity TT_TT ... I think I'll ditch the chest piece and come back to it, its proving waaaay too bitchy right now haha, maybe I should tone it down and go for Low def armour, I've always bitten off more than I can chew, time to call it quits and scale back my ambitions ^^; oops haha Maybe I can add in a sh!tload of detail with bondo/sanding and the dremel... *Ive never used a dremel in my life so something tells me that probs wont work haha*

I'll go old school and do the Halo Combat Evolved costume as it was in 2001 xD YAY for low-poly game renders xD

I know how you feel about the cold weather, I have to do all of my armor-hardening in my freezing garage to keep the bad fumes out of my house, and then move them into the house to let it all harden.

Also I would suggest sticking with the HD models because its so much more worth it in the end to have those extra details, even if they are a pain in the ass to build. If you do decide to just add the details with a dremel and bondoing later, that would probably work too, but not quite as well as doing them from the pep.

anyway I hope you continue to work on your project/a new CE costume, and if you have any questions I can try to answer them

yeah i would go with that too, you can just use the low detail chest and just add detail with spotputty or bondo

I think chest armor is notoriously bitchy to put together. It took me a while to put mine together (about 4-5 days of constant pepping) and that was the low def one. Great job on the pepping so far, very clean folds. Looking forward to seeing this one done!

I would listen to Annanymous' advice and resin outside and bring it in to cure. I did that with mine way back when I did it last year with my Recon helmet... My parents didn't appreciate the smell, but it wasn't as potent as if I did it inside the house.

Hmm, well I've already got the high detail chest like 70-90% pep'd, it looks alright ... Some of the tinier details are a little lost -I got super lazy with some of the folds on the teeny tiny things, sue me haha- but I can fix that with bondo.
As for resining/fiberglassing in the shed then bringing it in ... not a bad idea, my mom let the helmet stay indoors, it had a teeny tiny smell to it but hardened up a tonne better, its weird coz I left it in the coldish shed for a day, then brought it in the next evening and the next day it was considerably harder. I'll finish the chest, slap on some fiberglass and resin and see what happens, worst comes to worst I can always start again.

Thanks guys!!! You're always a great help :D I got the day off college (dunno if I said it already) but I think I'm gonna work on my assignments and chill, work on armour on the weekend ... Im getting my nails done as a new year treat on Thursday ... Maybe I should finish pepping so they dont get ruined ... hahaha oh the calamity xD
