Impresive job so far Saber :) Especially with the (original) AR. It was one of my first peps as well, and my "good" finished prod looks close to your dictionary -damaged one XP I'll deffinantly be following this thread and good luck with the rest of your build! :D

Yea, I figured it was too big. But it's because of my tiny girl hands... :( The problem is, that was the piece that took the most work hours to have it fully pepped apart from the rest of the suit. The barrel of the gun had the most itty bitty pieces and it REALLY annoyed me. The mystery piece, I lost it... So my pistol is technically incomplete.I guess I'll just repep it after I pep the rest of my suit. I have to repep my MAC anyways, so... Ya.

Lordzoabar: Thanks and I promise to have more posts coming in soon! :)

Hey I'm back!

Just an update:

I had to repep my left shoulder. I found out after I pepped the right shoulder that it was too big.

I really need to write my measurements down...

I also renforced my other pieces with wooden batons (aka popsicle sticks). I glued these on the pepped pieces that didn't have the support bars already with it. Here's an example: My Thigh piece with popsicle sticks to keep the shape when I resin it.

Here's the bottom, by the knee...

Here's the top, by the hip...

I also organized my closet!!! It's soo pretty! :pI had my wisdom teeth pulled a few days ago and I had a lot of time on my hands. The end result?

MORE ROOM FOR MY PIECES!!!

What's better? NO MORE DICTIONARY ACCIDENTS!!!!!

H001.jpg

AH HAHAHA! Very nice "Armory" you got there :p

Also, really good idea with the popsicle sticks, alot beter than messing with those annoying support struts! lol

wow looking great so far! i ended up using thick cardboard to support mine instead of cutting the support struts out! too much hassle :D

I actually DO use the support struts if they're provided. I figured they're there for a purpose and they retain the form you're SUPPOSED to have when making the suit. I'm using the popsicle sticks on the pieces that didn't have the struts provided.

Just as a general announcement:

I'm going to start to work on the fabled MC helmet. I did some snooping with my pepakura program and the helmet and chest, scaled to my size, use the same number of pages to pep. And it's all becuase they are so detailed! Around 36 pages!

What I'm going to do first though is to pep the low def file and see if I'm scaling my pieces right. If I got it right, I'll use that same scaling for the HD helm. I'll probably finish the practice helm and give it to my sister who is also a Halo Fanatic (but not enough to do this prop/armor making). But none the less, I'm sure she'd love it.

It'll probably take a qhile for me to get this piece done 1. because it's so Flippin' detailed and amazing, :D so I don't wanna mess it up, and 2. because I've started up Pre-Calculus part 2 at school, and that takes a lot of my time after school, along with sports.

But I will get it done sooner or later! :)

Untill then! Peace, and happy prop making!

HEy 405th!

I have finished pepping my practice MC Helmet and it fits great!

My only question is if YOU guys think it looks like it fits ok.

This is the practice HElm sitting on my lamp shade.

Here is me modeling it infront of my mirror.

Just a funny little tid-bit: When my helmet is on my lamp and my lamp is on, its looks really cool. I just turn on my lamp to look at my helmet now. :p

The backside of my helmet:

I've already printed out the HD melmet and I'm still cutting out all of the pieces. With so much school and sports, I don't know when I"ll be able to post again.

Comment and critique gladly accepted.

Till then! Happy Armor Builing!

Very nice job on the helm there, looks WAY better than the MC helm i trid to make lol :p

size looks good from here! :)

Hello Again, 405th!

Got some more pics fer ya! :)

I finished pepping my HD MC Helm! It took two nights to do it, straying up till midnight. I finished pepping the helm itself last night, and I just glued in the support struts.

I still have to glue on the floating faces, but I'm not concerned about it right now.

Here's my helm, front view:

And here's the port where MC stores the chip with Cortana in. It's not the clearest picture, but w/e.

And here's the two helmets HD and LD side by side for comparison:

I'm going to be working on the chest piece next. So just for reference: armpit to armpit right? For the measurement?

Comments and Critique greatfully accepted.

Hey, I've been checking out your thread and it looks like it's coming along great :)

in response to your question about your long hair... Are you going to be wearing like a balaclava/ski mask under your helmet? Only because I also have very long hair ( and am definatly not cutting it short!) I'm going to French plat it down the back so it stays tight to your head and just tuck the ponytail part under yourski mask, then nothing will be showing over the armour and look weird haha

well anyway hope that helped and I'm looking foreward to seeing how your project turns out! :D

I have long hair too but its also thick so what I'm going to do is braid my hair a few days before Dragoncon so it will fit in the balaclava better.

Anyways, I like the giant popsicle stick support struts on the legs :lol I may do that. I got my resin and clear coat last night and I'll get the respirator today so I'll be installing some extra support struts all day tomorrow. Cant wait to see more progress on the armor.

To AceNat and Monicator:

It's good to see some girl comstumers out there. And thank you for your comments.

I've been thinking about the whole hair dilemma myself and (haha, girls talking about hair) I was thinking about a hair net that people wear to wear a wig like Miley Cyrus does.(Note: I am not a fan of her)). It's probably expensive so that idea isn't probably not gonna happen. I'm going to get a "ski"mask from my dad from the Fire Dept that he wears when he's on call for a fire. I love my dad. :p

Anyways... I was thinking of french braiding my hair so it's flat against my head (similar to your idea, AceNat) and then clip the remaining hair to my head. I'll probably use a thick hairband to help hold it to my head. Then I'll wear the "ski"mask from my dad and I'll be set for my helmet.

A little discovery: I was just playing around with my HD helm and wore it around the house for about half an hour. It got really stuffy even though it was just paper and I had "ventilation" (aka a big gaping hole) in the from of my helm. It just makes me wonder how its gonna be with me wearing my full suit after being completed. I'm usually on the warm side, so I have to make up a solution for being too hot in my suit.

I've looked at the ideas for installing a fan, or cooling system but I have NO (none ,zip, zilch!) experiance in wiring anything except an outlet port. ;_;

I'll have to PM some people and look for some tuts if I am to survive my own suit... heheheh....

I'm back! Wazzup?!?
I finished pepping the chest piece! It was a major pain in the arse. haha

The back was the worst. All the detail and tiny pieces really tried my patience. But now that I'm done, I KNOW I will finish this suit strong. The only thing I have left? The COD Piece.
BOOYAH!!!
I don't know what to do for sizing though. If you guys could gice me a hint, that's be great.
Thanks for following my thread and for the comments and critique!
Saber is back! And she's still goin' strong!!!!

Grats on finishing the chest! Lol I just got back from being gone myself. Dont forget those support struts!

Yeah. I forgot to mention that I was going to glue those in. I just wanted to post some pics becuase I was so excited. haha
But don't worry. I'm actually gluing them in right now.

Sorry for the double post! I just needed to post a quick "update" (Not to mention a short story :p)

For the Update:
Before I actually started the chest piece, I bought a gallon container of fiberglass resin for $35 at Home Depot. I still need to buy some brushes, but I'll worry about that later. I also have permission from my uncle to borrow his cartridge respirator for my build. For goggles, I will be using my divers mask. The upside to using the divers mask it that I won't have to worry about sweat or hair getting into my eyes. But the downside of it is that it would cover my nose, and probably get in the way of the respirator.
For the chest piece, I have glued all of the support struts in and added extra support where the struts didn't provide. As you can see in this picture here, I glued wooden batons to the collar because it liked to lift a little.
SDC10493.jpg

What I found really awesome is that I convinced my teachers to let my suit production to be my Senior Project this coming school year!!!!! :D

As for the story:
This piece has been a major challenge, as I have said before. For starters, I tried starting this piece the week before Finals were going on. (Which was a dumb idea on my part)
The first time I tried printing it, I jammed the printer with too much paper. So after I unjammed the printer, it did this wierd beeping noise.
It ran out of ink...
After waiting a week for my mom to get more ink for the printer, I was excited to print the chest piece so I instantly put the printer to work (making sure not to jam it this time). I was unaware that my mom was helping my dad with some computer work and needed to print some stuff. But my chest piece was occupying the printer. Frustrated, my mom canceled the print about half way through the print. I had no clue of what my mom did so I closed the Pepakura Designer window. I have the free version so I couldn't save the window without having to pay for the full version. There's a problem with that because I rearranged the pieces so I was wasting less paper. You can guess the hours I spent trying to take out the pieces that I have already printed.
What's worse, all of the numbers in the second print were jumbled compared to the first.
When I had to glue it, it was like gluing a jig-saw puzzle together with out the lid of the box as a guide.
I obviously perservered and didn't do that bad of a job putting it together either.
Here is my suit overall put together like a person was wearing it.

I am so excited about the pepping stage being over that when I finished pepping the chest I started dancing.
So anyways, I still need to know how to scale the COD plate. I say this again because I really want the pepping stage to be done.
Thanks for reading my thread and giving comments and critique!

That last picture is really inspiring!

Thank you! I'm glad that I've inspired you and I hope to inspire others!:cool

Now I've convinced my best friend to start a build!! hahaha!! :D She's only doing an UNSC build, but she is starting it!
She has no clue what she is supposed to be doing, but I'll be helping her with the process. I'm gonna make the best guess that sizing the pieces for the UNSC will be similar to the spartan, with exception of some pieces. Like the shin and the shoulder. Can someone give me a link that can help me with sizing for the UNSC? :confused Thanks!

Maybe I can get her to join 405th? :p Who knows!

Thanks for following my Thread!
