1st Build ODST Build

Finally have a follow-up! The weather has not been cooperating on my days off to allow me to paint outside, but my chest plate is finally in a state that's presentable, photo dump incoming.

Made the assumption that I wasn't going to be good enough with a brush to make the decals exactly how i wanted them, and i did not like the idea of using printout's either, so I went ahead and picked up a Cricut Joy Xtra. Using the removable vinyl got me a really good stencil that made the process of painting on the decals super easy, and I would highly recommend the process to someone trying to do the same thing.

Did some basic weathering that I'm happy with for the moment, ill be holding off on any clear coat till I know how it looks with the rest of the suit. View attachment 366373
Still not sure if I'll be adding any sort of callsign to the center grey area.

All the decals came from the super useful Halo 3: ODST Decals and Details thread, if you want to match the color the closest to what's used on the rookie cosplay guide Yeti White from the army painter paint series is almost 1:1, amazon has it specifically in a pack HERE , but I'm sure your local hobby/miniature shop may have it in single bottles if you don't want a pack of different paint hues.

For anyone with a cricut, heres a few links to my project files for you guys to use in your builds, if you dont want to go through the process of doing it yourself. The UNSC logo goes down in two parts to allow for the most detail, just make sure you hide/unhide which one you do/don't want to cut.

These were sized for my suit, so some resizing will probably have to be done for your project. :)

I'm going to be shot-gunning out a ton of pieces at once considering how the weather is getting worse and worse now. Backplates and the lower chest pieces are the main focus

Dude the weathering on that chest plate came out very nice!

Been a bit since the last post!
The stencils worked a little too well in areas and not as good in others, I think that was down to how few layers of paint I put under the vinyl.

I'd use at least two or three coats of a base paint layer before applying the vinyl on top for the best results. Beforehand I de-canned alot of my excess spraypaint into bottles for hand painting, so the overspray and paint chipping was more of a annoyance than a full on hinderance to the progress, if anything it adds a nice texture to the plates once they have been weathered.

After that its just going back over with the silver acrylic and adding all of the scratching and chip marks!

Next I secured all of the backplates together and got the chest plates rigged, its all held together with JB Weld and 1/2inch strapping for the back and 1 inch on the chest.

Clips were also attached onto the ab plate to allow for easy install when putting on the suit.

Decided as well its much easier to store and see the parts in context with a mannequin, so I went ahead and ordered a poseable one off amazon, and made it a nice backdrop in my workshop for display.

Not much more to go from here! The goal is to have this done in time for C2E2 which should be obtainable. All that's left to go is the arms, kneepads and belt. Will be following up soon with another update, till next time!
