ODST Build

More progress has been made on the attachment system for my backpack, i have used luggage bands to fasten the backpack to my chestplate in addition to three 7kg magnets.

The luggage band attachment points sits in my shoulders underneath a panel that folds up, this is to hide them when i take it off. I also made sure that i can attach my DMR on the side.

This works really well and was able to hold about 3 kg walking around.
so im very happy with how this has turned out so far.

Next up is priming it for paint this weekend. : )

Finally priming time!
The way I usually prime foam is by first heat sealing it with a heat gun, and then using PVA glue (wood glue) watered down to a paint like consistency and painting it on 3-4 layers, you know a layer is done when it is transparent. Make sure to use a brush that you are not attached too since this will most likely ruin it for painting other things. I usually rinse mine in water between layers, but after a while you feel some glue build up on it.

This hardens the foam and makes sure that i have a nice surface to paint on, it also helps to keep the paint from cracking.
Next up is painting it! : )

So next up was a bit of a painting spree, i managed to finish both my backpack and shoulders.
First up the paints i used here was model paints for pigment and some cheaper hobby paint to make it last over a larger surface.
For some simple weathering i used a cheap wide brush, and perhaps stupidly i used a small brush for painting most of the surface

And after a few hours of painting i think it did turn out pretty well.

While i was painting the armor i also did some dry brushing on my pistol and lo and behold it looks like metal!

Now i only have the gauntlets and stomach plate left to paint, and then i got a lot of rigging to do.
