why a lot? two coats usually work

Because if you put alot of coats on, those layer will build up and create an invisible barrier between the environment and Helmet surface. Also, It makes it very shiny.

Ive never been a fan of really shiny armor....looks like it could have been wrapped in plastic wrap. Anyway, I plan on using a flat paint, not gloss and then maybe one coat of clear.

Though I thought the style looked familiar. Built up shades, blacklining, bright highlights/drybrushing to contrast the deep base tones. Yep definatly saw plenty of that sort of thing in the cabinets when I was a Troll/Hobby Specialist at GW HQ.

Definatly sweet.

I was thinking the same thing. A lot of this is just macro versions of what's applied to painting miniatures.

so the black is auto-primer not spray paint? I want do do it on cardboard so will the hammered stuff work on it?

That Oregano is one crazy ass color. I went to every store in my town, and no one had it, so I go to the town to the north and find some at Home Depot. However, the can didn't say "American Accents," it says "Painters Touch." They must've changed it, I looked really close at all the paint and almost missed it. In the store and on the way home, I swear it looked like just a beige. But now that I'm home it looks green. I don't know how you ever came up with this color Adam, my hats off to you.

Ok, my armor paint job got all scratched up and chipped while attending a couple costume contests. It is past the point of battle scaring/damage painting. Arrggghhhh. So, I have followed the instruction, but am having trouble with the clear coat, paint, and primer peeling off the suit like it was a skin.

Does anyone have any advice on what would cause this and / or what I am doing wrong?

I used the Rustoleum primer, automotive paint (1:1), and automotive clear coat (4:1).

Sand it... its not sticking because you have a surface that either not clean, or too smooth.... a fine grit sand paper will help out with both

I just finished a tutorial about a new painting technique.

i like your paint job but that video isnt really a tutorial *says in discrition on youtube NOTA TUTORIAL!*id like to copy your idea i just need to know you BASE color. what color did u use before any else or is that the molds color comeing out of......the mold....
