Hey all!!

So my deadline is quickly approaching (Calgary Expo) so definitely not stressing but I wanted to post an update before working too far into it! I've done some of the build just out of foam, EVA from like walmart and I believe a 3mm or 4mm thick foam and it's not the worrrrst it could be lol. So far I've got my forearms, biceps and shoulder guards set and done out of foam, just need to paint. I've started already with a silver undercoat, before topping with gunmetal and purple :) Everything, except the helmet and hand armour will be foam, why I didn't do the hand armour in foam, idk lol. super inspire by a lot of the other builds on here and that I've seen in person.

I ordered my helmet from Velvizir on Etsy (they have some really cool helmets) and made my hand armour on my 3d printer. Next up are the shins! I have to repaint the helmet though, I don't think I let the paint properly dry before masking and applying another colour and it kinda tore away the bottom layer of paint, but it okay!

Will continue to update when I get more done but it's a sporadic project. This is my first build so it's a bit rough but id love to learn and hear tips and good practices :)

Oki thanks for reading my ted talks lol

Great looking foam work. Hope you finish by your deadline.
Thanks! Itll be close and it may look a little rough but that okay since its my first build and already learning things i can improve on for the next ones. Only thing im intimidated about is the chest but itll be fiiiine

Another bit of an updated, everything i have done has been painted and covered :) im only missing the boots and the chest piece (its so daunting but im slowly chipping away at it).

There are already a few improvements im going to make for my version 2 suit, very much considering 3d printing the biceps, forearms and other bits like the spine and hand plates. As well as remaking my thighs since theyre a little big, smaller better fitting ones would be better.

The helmet is by far my favourite piece tho, i installed headphones to amplify the outside noises so i can hear better, added 2 small fans at the front and 4 blue leds for the visor and its all run on its own power supply :)

How did the LEDs in the helmet turn out? I was wondering if you were going to try and diffuse them at all.
I might still diffuse them somehow, like putting a small opaque piece of plastic under them or something. But i dont hate how they look at the moment. I just hid them behind the helmet "teeth" but right on the edge of the visor. They do kind of blind me but it isnt really that bad

I did a partial suit up a little bit ago and just forgot to post any pics lol. But i just have the chest to make which im currently building. The thighs are a little big so i might resize and rebuild if i have the time.

Ive also printed and assembled a DMR that ill be carrying around, and added some lights for the ammo counter and scope with a little switch in the grip. (Ill be adding an opaque plastic to the ammo counter and scope to diffuse the light)

Solid choice with the recon, I absolutely love that helmet I got it on my reach build and it's a second helmet to Rakshasa. The foam work is pretty darn good and it's nice to see people skinning foam with fabric for gasket pieces, it gives it a little bit extra detail and love into the suit.

for the thighs beeing to big, id say the look like a good fit on the pics. if you just need them a little thighter just cut out a stripe of the inside portion of them or from the back. i dont think redoing them is necessary c:

Thanks! I used to always (and still do lets be honest) use the Recon helmet in what i play so it made sense, tho the Rakshasa helmet is pretty sick as well! Awesome choice there! The fabric adds such a nice look to it too, still trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my undersuit as well but thatll be a future me problem lol

I just felt theyre a bit too long, tho ill see how the first suiting goes or after the full suit up. Eventually id like to get a 3d print of some pieces but for now if they arent too uncomfy they should work

Tiny update on the chest piece, thinking of doing it in three pieces(front, back, and gasket) to be able to velcro one to the other for easier suit up, but so far have the back mostly built aside from some tiny details. The front should probably take just as long. Plus the painting and lighting of everything. And then its just the feet! Well and undersuit but thats still being thought up lol
