1st Build Scrapper and Gears' ODST Build(s)

This all looks fantastic! Can I ask about the Titlewave Pro series helmet? The "FAST" insert that he has added in there seems to take up a good amount of space due to the magnet standoffs. Any reason not to just remove them and put in padding instead?

I have the files and am trying to decide how best to print them.

Thanks! I honestly can't say it feels like a lot IRL, i printed the size L due to my genetic predisposition to being a human bobblehead and as far as what you'd expect heftwise for a legitimate military/space helmet and what it would entail I think it ends up being fairly on the money, of course up to preference though on that. I'd say the two most important pro's (pun intended) to the FAST setup are:

-You can prevent wobble while wearing the helmet just like padding but while affording yourself circulation and extra space inside the helmet that would otherwise be filled, the posts hold the helmet a bit off your head and that "liner" he modeled has some vents in it which seems to make long stints in the helmet a bit less sweaty and claustrophobic (at least from the short stretches of time I've worn it around so far, i'll report back after I troop in it for a full day to see if this point really holds water LOL)

-The magnets used both to attach the lining and the front to the main helmet are pretty strong, having the lining there to sorta help rotationally lock it on the head where padding would allow a bit more rotational freedom certainly makes the removable face feature easier to use when being worn. If it wasn't there just given the experience of pulling it off and on with the magnets installed I could see it going from a one hand job to a two, because you'd have to hold down the back of the helmet as well to help separate it. Once again kinda up to preference there I suppose.

Hope this helps dude!

Appreciate the response! You're the first post I've seen that actually shows off how the front removes and the FAST system works. It seems like an odd choice for Titlewave not to demo it or render how it works at all!

The increased airflow seems like a good selling point VS traditional foam. I wish he had cut the model better for FDM printing though. It seems like there's not many good orientations for it, but I'll keep playing around after I get the sizes set.

Keep up the great work, I'm following in your footsteps using a lot of the same files.

Thank you dude! I think I was actually the first to complete a build of this helmet to be quite honest haha, my reel is currently the functioning demo- after i saw his H2A helmet i resigned to trusting the process on this one.

As for slicing, this is how i oriented them and cleanup wasn't too paintful, maybe this could be useful to help you in setting up your print, im running on a Creality k2 plus with a 350mm cubed build area:

Had a touch of cleanup on the neck seal and a bit under the lip on top of the visor but those were very easy fills.

Hey folks!
Sorry for the lack of updates, finishing up first revision went hard the past month. I'll make more posts later with some more of the build specifics and theory on it all but ODST "Scrapper" made it to NYCC!

(and yes i timed out on the grenades so i printed raw ones for some can storage with a picatinny mount on them, between that and my canteen addition I was well hydrated)

and of course, with John Halo himself Gearsofhalo who along with my GF served as wonderful handlers. Next time we'll get you in your Foxtrott armor brother!

As you can guess this is far from the end of modding and building on this, but I'm terribly pleased with it so far, and somehow it had the least surprises of any suit I've built to date (I guess time and practice really do work in the end, huh?)

Once again once I'm all rested up on this I'll be back to posting with details already on this thing and a roadmap for the future, AND the work we're doing on Gear's suit. Stay tuned for that!

I'm back already with tweaks and updates!

I was honestly pleasantly surprised that there was not even one semicatastrophic failure on the armor all day on the most crowded day at NYCC- I guess years of building costumes and armor is finally starting to pay its dividends! That being said- the suit started telling me where it wanted weathering already- I intend to work with it and allow it to continue to realistically tell me where wear and tear is supposed to go on it. When the armor talks, listen!
Additionally, I had already done significant modification to titlewave's shoulder and flank armor to allow it to fit my frame in a way that makes sense- i think it adhered very well with my shape and setup mods, but i did notice the marine underchest did start wearing down on some of the undersections. Why is this different? Glad you asked. the shoulders and flanks are TPU prints coated in Plastidip with matching paint over. When it wears it doesnt necessarily wear like the rest of the suit, and we don't want the plastidip peeling off.
Before i decided to modify the shape and structure of the flanks, I was considering soft goods flanks with hard armor plating modeled to be riveted on. I decided to kinda riff off of that now. I tossed the modded flanks in meshmixer and designed veneers to be mounted on the current TPU platforms.
Screenshot 2025-10-18 at 2.52.00 PM.png

Ideally they'll be glued on and then further secured (somewhat aesthetically) with countersunk m3 screws. This will solve the Plastidip peel issue while also giving me mental peace of mind that there's hard armor on the part and it has the proper hardness where it should be while also maintaining the flex that i chose the TPU for. My printer decided to give me a post NYCC run for my money this weekend but hopefully i'll have prints of these to test in the next few days.

Are you there, God? It's me, Scrapper.

Back with some updates. plates printed, drilled some pilot holes into my armor and it seems to hold well without any glue- the less glue the better as far as im concerned, the easier to replace pieces if something breaks, the less risk of mess, blah blah blah.
Have a comparison pic of the base vs the installed plating without weathering so far:
att.nT9EfGonfDaxk4gI-QwW7JUnHsa_GxDmHoWOhcfgb_k.JPG

probably goes without saying but the lower is the new plating on. very little difference besides some screws (i think it looks kinda tuff anyways, echoes the added screws on the odst clips for their practical assembly) and will be much more resilient going foward hopefully.

I've also started printing an M90 off of Aguilar workshop's files, and will be starting work soon on the bulldogs and MA40's I've got here for Gearsofhalo and myself. as usual i'll do my best to post progress.

Til next time!

"FOX" build for my character -

My build began concurrently with Scrapper's but has been a bit of a slow burn due to my wife & I welcoming our baby. However, I am back on the road! I am using a lot of the same hardware and fastening systems as Scrapper but going to tackle a more soft-rig vest first due to some mobility issues I have in the upper back. For this I am going to do soft straps that are not printed at the shoulders and still the reach style under-chest.

My paint scheme is going to incorporate Mt.Fuji from Montana into the chest and helmet to bring in an earth tone blue and complement the orange we see on Scrapper's.

The files are Titlewave Designs for the most part, and the thighs are Moe Sizzlac, the abs and forearms were extra B-grade prints from Scrapper's Aguilar's Armory set that I luckily snagged!

Helmet is still being cleaned up. My printer barely squeaked that top part out lol

I also have been experimenting adding a kydex or ceramic-like texture to SOME of the prints just for some visual interest.

Everything sits at about 220/380 grit stage right now and/or is being painted. I'm thrilled to be finishing this up. I've wanted this since I joined this forum in 2008. Talk about a SLOW BURN! But I am more thrilled to be making this with my friend. Best feature of any build!

Hey all!
Been a hot minute on this thread and build, some things have changed, got rid of my creality k2 plus in favor of a bambu h2s and elegoo centauri carbon, froze into an ODST sickle so paint isn't going down on things, started work on some new accessories and whatnot, but otherwise same old base armor, same old poster, same bat-time, same bat-channel.

On my own costume, I've been adding some to my loadout now that my main "SMG and SOCOM" special is out of the way- my first point of order was (perhaps foolishly) an m60 shotgun prop. I grabbed the base model from Aguilar workshop and started printing about... 2 weeks after my last post? gorgeous model but HOO BOY! It's VERY easy to forget how big a lot of these pieces scale to a human. I'm not the tallest or broadest person by any means but I'm not exactly the slightest person either and it was UNRULY at 100%. stashing that one away for a friend who potentially will scale better to it while i started reprinting at about 70%, pic of two like parts compared below:
Screenshot 2026-01-28 at 7.52.26 PM.png

As you can see, BIG difference. At 6 ft and vaugely 165 pounds usually, the smaller one is much more manageable while still looking formidable and will be easier to carry and doff while trooping. No, I'm not going to address the fuzzy sweatshirt, its comfortable.

About at this time, I started have MAJOR issues with my K2, I'm not gonna get too into it right here because its not the point of the build post- it got to a point where noting would print and customer support's excuses became ridiculous enough that i was able to return it through the marketplace I had purchased it from and got a centauri carbon and put myself on the waitlist for an H2S for the same price as my K2- and BOY! what great printers they are! I've been printing for over a decade now, both hobby wise and professionally and I've been very pleased so far with both machines.

I wrapped printing on the m60 just as the cold started coming in, we've been in for a cold winter this year so getting this done looks like a job for the spring right now, some paints I'm comfortable using in the colder temps with proper prep but this i really think is gonna be one better off left until the warmer season, so keep an eye out!

If you thought that was all, you'd be wrong! Sure i have more things in the idea bag, but after the debut at NYCC with everyone's favorite UNSC member, John Halo (as faithfully portrayed by our own Gearsofhalo ), my other handler, my girlfriend, expressed some interest in her own "Mary Halo" UNSC build to wear as a handler. Being me, I cannot resist the oppertunity for a build, so i've been planning and working on some armor for her as well. Thoughts and some progress below:

First off, almost EVERY file I need I already own. I bought an UNHOLY amount of files ODST and otherwise marine related for R&D on my ODST, customized some myself, have a collection of helmets from Titlewave's patreon, among other things. primary thoughts being, between my printers and the file stockpile already in my posession this should be a very straightfoward process at least for the armor, soft goods we'll have to worry about later!

Immediately, I decided pulling some reference of different REACH models, concepts, both bungie and fan-made for female marines would be an intelligent call, everyones familiar at this point with the meme of the female UNSC marine from reach so this isn't a super challenging undertaking. Here's a selection of things i've been drawing from:

Main priorities for design here:
  • Keep it vaguely feeling in the same era as the armor fireteam gravedigger is working with (hence the primary focus on reach-y builds)
  • Don't overload her with armor- I'm much more willing to be over encumbered than most, so i don't want to overdo it, keep it to necessary, silhouette-building parts that make logical sense, keep the extremities light and easy to maneuver in.
  • Scaling- files must scale well to the body but also work well with existing strap widths, we're using a lot of similar widths of similar or identical strapping on these builds.
  • Make it visually distinct from an odst- this is a true blue normal marine and we want to make sure it lives on those merits and doesn't end up looking like its a halfway stage.
Those thoughts out of the way, first descision I made was to use the same Gen 1 marine base chest and back from titlewave. the full scale (besides the modified shoulders and flanks) fit me at my size pretty well at approximately 6 feet, understanding my girlfriends height and my strapping options (the main strap width it was designed around is 1.5 in) i did some math and came up with a general scaling "rosetta stone" of 83.33 percent. This scaling:
  • Throws it generally from an average active male build more into the scaling of an average active female build, necessary of course so she's not swimming in the armor.
  • Strapping widths generally line up really well: 1.5 in strapping slots easily turn into 1.25 inch slots, 2 inch slots become 1.66, very close and suitable for 1.5 inch, 1.25 inch slots become 1.04 inch, perfect for 1 inch strapping, and 1 inch becomes.... well, you get the idea.
  • Large enough that we're not losing detail, small enough that most of this is easy printing and orientation.
Started off printing the front and its "clips" (parts i did not use on my ODST because i used the odst metal clips on mine), followed by the back, here's a pic of the front so far:

Screenshot 2026-01-28 at 8.38.47 PM.png

As you could probably assume, it looks roughly the same, but just smaller  allow my hand to provide some sense of scale vs the photos ive posted in my armor.
I haven't loaded TPU in for the flanks and chest yet, I decided we're going all in on the hard parts first. In keeping with the parameters I set, I decided we needed some shoulders and thigh armor from here. Naturally, I used my modified thigh armor from moesizzlac's gorgeous files, rescaled and reinstalled the mounting holes for the picatinny rails and popped out a set of those in about half a day. On the shoulders i was very excited to get some use out of some really nice files I had bought in an odst/marine bundle from mantis prop shop, really nicely done pieces, used my universal scaling and they look like they're gonna work pretty well- I'll have photos of that all soon! I've decided that shin and forearm armor isn't super needed, leaning kinda into that first reference image. We'll be getting tac pants with slot-in knee armor to give a bit of extra protection, but that should keep this nice and manageable.

Seeing as I've already written the great American novel here, I'll wrap up with whats currently on the print bed: the crown of the build, I finally had an excuse to pull out the beautiful files for titlewave's Infinite Marine/MP Pro series helmet. I really want to make myself one at some point but for now, this will definitely scratch my itch.Gonna probably use the cheek guard mandibles, maybe make the glasses and readout accessories to slot in for her. She's not a fan of a lot of cover in front of the face so it's a great option I think. I take a size L in the Pro line, but I didn't need to scale anything because her head size lines up really well with his size S files. I'll be popping the main piece off the Bambu in about half a day, and we'll be that much closer to wrapping up on this.

As for compatibility with the Fireteam Gravedigger narrative? I'll leave that to Gearsofhalo !

Anyways, I'm tired of typing, I'll be back soon enough to give more updates, I swear!

Until next time!

Happy some of the parts I had to reprint a few times found a good home dude! heaven knows I had enough spare parts to outfit like half a squad! Much better putting it on buddies than in a landfill.
