Soullesssin's Armor Progress

Just a quick update but I added details to my shin and it looks like it'll turn out pretty good. Though after I did that, I noticed crackhead made a new shin model. I hit myself in the head and not much I can do now since the shin is in the bondo stage. Expect a lot of updates from me since I'm not on vacation no mores ):

Although it's a great update to his model, there are still details you'll need to add that aren't in his new model (that you've roughed in already), so don't feel too bad. I also noticed that the new model is a little deeper in the calf area while his old model is slimmer overall.

@Oreo

Haha you must mean that I should do every single detail off of my 12" chief huh. Well I need to add cardboard and a lil sanding here and there. I know I have to add the details on the side of the shin and lower back. Lol it sucks when you wanna be perfect.

Hehe, yeah I recognized those extra details you drew in since I've been staring at mine while pepping my shin. I was actually debating whether or not to do the old one or the new one. If we're going to be following the 12" Chief as reference like you, me, and Pooper seem to be doing, then the old one actually has one slight advantage because many of the extra details in the calf area are lines you'd carve INTO the model while the overall silhouette actually seems to be a smooth curve. I ended up using the new one because I wouldn't have to carve out a big chunk for the bottom-front detail.

Lol yeahhh. That's why you have a dremel kit for :D

Though I do have a secret thing going on for the added details on my chest.

Sorry for the dbl post but today I finished sanding my chest and started to test paint it. Though I can't decide whether to use a metallic black or a flat black for the areas that need to be black. Haha I'll make up my mind today or something.

Looking good! And I'm a little jealous that you've got your shins started before I did... jk! :p

It's looking great, and threads like yours, Mr. Oreo's, Jjack's, etc. keeps me motivated and going. As for the blacks, I tend to go with flat black. I haven't seen anyone use metallic black in the black areas yet, so if you go that route, your armor will really stand out from the rest.

Torso is looking great! There is one thing I like on yours WAY better than mine... (tell ya in a pm.)

armor looks great. i love the details. I cracked my helmet and i had to bondo the inside and outside the crack to fix it.

@Pooper

Haha I did not know what was going on and I thought I had the wrong pm :eek

But I get it now.

@xavierjer

Thanks and I hate it when your armor cracks ):

But thank god it's easy as hell to fix (in some cases)

Yeah, it's a major bummer, but Oreo gave me an idea. It'll set me back a day or two to get it done, but will be worth it.

@Pooper

Hey I may have an idea you may be interested in.

EDIT:

Some progress pics. Had to glass some areas in the forearms and shins that I missed and will bondo it today.

EDIT 2: Both shins and forearms fully bondo. Tomorrow I will sand everything to get it ready for painting :D

I have been reading up on that "rondo method" and really interested in trying it. when you sand do you still get the little dents and pits?

@xavierjer

Well for denting, It would depend on the curvature of the pep file you are doing. Let's say if one part warped slightly or you pepped it wrong, there would end up being a small dent. But It can be easily fixed by spot putty. Pits are normal but not as much as regular bondo. You can fill it in with rondo again or just paint it and see. I mean trying to fix all the little craters is meaningless since when painted, It's hard to see. But when mixing rondo, you gotta be careful on letting pockets of air when mixing. I think I could end up saying a lot more but I should make a tut out of this but more refined than whats up there on the stickies.

UPDATE:

I finished sanding my chest and it's ready for paint hooray :D

I don't know if I ever got a pic of the back on what I was about to do to it. But I guess you can see the changes on it. I dremeled out that back detail since I'm in the last stages of it being complete. And I must say that It is comparable to Poopers chest. (Hahah jk Pooper)

Now by tonight, I should have my forearms and shins done for painting since they aren't as complicated as the chest but I need to sand the edges of the back detail or whatever you wanna call it. I'd hate to stick my finger in there and get cut by fiberglass (true story)

This is looking really awesome soulless! you get the pooper seal of approval! :D

Great job! Man, this gets me pumped up to finish my projects...

Soul thanks for the info. a tut would be great. Your armor is looking great and getting me fired up to finishing up my set.

@xavierjer

Yeah no prob. Well a while back, I had a tut all set up and planned out but I never got around to finishing it. But let's see what I can do today since I can't work on my armor. ):

@Pooper

Haha woot I'm Pooper approved :D

I should make a logo for this occasion

lol I thought about doing that, but it might come off as kind of cheesy? :p

Anyway, it looks great. And it fits!

Damn... the "pooper seal of approval"? Seeing how your own is coming along, that's quite a compliment coming from you, I'd say (you've got skills, even with your first build) :D

Maybe something with the motto "Pooper Approves this Project"... or some such thing :) lol

Meh, I don't think so. The way I see it, that's the sort of encouragement the 405th is all about :cool

Anyway, loving your work on this Soulless. That rondo nicely smooths out the Pep model, even unsanded/unfinished. Lookin' super smexy there, dude ;)

Different idea for doing the recessed details on the power packs, btw. Most I've seen have people adding them on top of the existing model (which is how I plan to do mine, as well). Points for creative thinking.
