I haven't got around to drawing up the ejection yet but did want to comment about the grip. I had to do modifications on the grip for my M6G. Because if I had left it the same as the drawings it would have been just like what your running into on your grip. I made minor adjustments and you can't really tell...

Thanks for that Lee handy to know that someone else has run into similar things. The build is still going to be a while off yet due to various things. As I progress further I'll keep you updated. ;)

I think we have a winner! I tried to find a pic of a H3 shotgun in the hands of a normal sized character, but could only find a H1 version.

I agree with you and Lee that the grip should be modified to better fit in the real world. Accuracy can slip a little in favor of ergonomics. :D
I haven't started on it yet, but I have a couple ideas for how to make the loading ramp and mag function of a normal, mag-on-the-bottom shotgun work for this. I have to warn you, though, it'll probably be a bear of a mechanism to fit in a wood prop.

I'm interested to see what you've got in mind Loess, even though I may not use it if it's too difficult. :p Version 2 perhaps? And thanks for that picture it's really good for comparison!

...Also, how were you able to draw the Shotgun so accurately without a blueprint in Full scale? Seems like you looked at the scaled blueprint and drew it freehand!

Thus far I'm dedicated, not MAD!

I print out an A4 of the picture and then work out the scale the picture is to the "real" article and jot it down in the top right hand corner and multiply all my measurements off the drawing by that. With the M90A I've then gone around the outside and listed as many measurements/angles as I can fit to get the silhouette.
ab430d10.jpg

I still need to take measurements off the drawing when I'm transferring to the plyboard though, just not enough room around the drawing to fit all the dimensions I need.

I then take my T square and set squares and transfer the measurements to the plyboard in pencil and then go over them in nikko pen so you guys can see them clearly in the pictures.

You can't see it in this picture but luckily for me the plyboard is cut true so I can use my T square on the edge of it and draw nice accurate measurements. :)

That is looking great so far. Makes me think I should have paid more attention during Drafting classes in high school. :rolleyes

Thanks Dan. I couldn't have made any of the stuff that I've made in my workshop (like the blue workbench in the pictures) without drawing or following plans. I just couldn't. without a doubt that'll also transfer to my prop building.

...ok so I was watching a documentary on halo one day and learned an interesting fast
"the weapons on the ground where made 20% larger to make them more visible while playing"

this explains why it was so huge

OMG I just can't believe I forgot that...

Now that you mention it I recall seeing it now too. Was that somewhere on the H2 CE bonus disk wasn't it?

But what I don't get though is why they list the dimensions as the huge size? Sure scale them up in game, but why say they're made to scale purely for gigantors? :cautious:

Amazing work so far!

Also are you aware that you look a lot like Chuck Liddell?

Thanks Smilie! Lol, no I was not aware I looked like Chuck. I think I'd need to heft a lot more full sized M90A's to get to his size now that I've seen him though.

I've (finally) got a decent side view of the bulldog done that I can start scaling up so I hope to do a cutout of it this weekend. But this is all taking a bit long and I really just want to build something from Halo that's not going to take weeks and have to source soundboards for blah, blah, blah. So I've also done some research on another little project that I may be able to knock up quickly in the near future.

Oh! And I'll draw up the 8 gauge round soon too! I'll even do a stencil for the print on the cartridge. I'm thinking of scaling the length down 20% but keeping the OD at 21.21mm so it's an 8 gauge, but able to fit in the reduced loading and ejection ports. :)

BOLD # 1: Sounds like you've got a good system in place for calculating/transferring the measurements from paper to plywood, buddy! Of course, you know my method; using the stated in-game model dimensions as a guideline, I just eyeball the rest, lol.

BOLD # 2: IIRC, that documentary was included on the H2 CE bonus disc. It's been a while since I've seen it, though.

BOLD # 3: I've been told I look like Simon Pegg. When I have the goatee thing going on anyway, lol.

BOLD # 4: Sweet deal! Looking forward to seeing some pics of your progress, and hopefully a few of whatever work you'll be able to get done on it this weekend. Of course, I'll still be up to my eyeballs in work on that theatre production, so my own project may take a little while longer than expected.

I use drawings all the time at work (I work in the mechanical seal industry, a component that goes into pumps) but they're all scaled down. I've never really worked with full sized blueprints so it just seems natural to me. I was quite surprised that so many of you use full size drawings. A calculator's just another piece of drawing equipment for my workshop. ;)

The Bulldog blueprints are coming along... finally. Here's a teaser.

None of the work I've done on the Bulldog would have been possible without Wizard of Flight's plans so I'd like to thank him once again for giving me permission to modifiy his drawings. I don't think it'll be the last time though. There's a lot of other great weapons in the Halo universe that never made it much further then a concept drawing or the cover of a book that I feel deserve the same level of attention as I've shown the M90A here. And once I'm finished here I'd like to move onto them.

J76's Concept and Custom Weapons thread perhaps?

Love to see that. The Bulldog prints look awesome! I could very easily build from your prints.

BOLD # 2: Umm... good question, lol. I can't even remember where I put my copy of HALO 2 now (probably in storage)

BOLD # 3: It does help to better visualize the resemblance with the growth, lol.

BOLD # 4: As usual, can't see the pic. Why must you always post these updates when I'm at work, and can't view them? You should wait until I get home *feels all self-important*

A quick update (mainly to keep Spartan II to happy :p )-

I haven't got any pictures to post but I have made really good progress on the Bulldog over the last two days. The blueprints are finished being modified except for minor details (which will still be time consuming but I'm a lot closer to posting them now then I was last week), and I've started drawing it onto the plyboard.

My intention was to get the outline done so I could cut it out tonight after work and post pictures before Linda and I went away for the weekend, but that just didn't happen. I was up till 1am the night before posting pictures of the workshop and at 11pm last night I was just making too many mistakes. I started at the butt and worked my way around the top and when I got to the trigger guard it was about 3'' from where it should have been. When I cleaned that up and then made a similar mistake not 2 minutes later I decided to call it a night.

I hope to at least get an outline done on the plyboard tonight so I can post a picture of that for you. But I've got to have an early night tonight as we're leaving straight from my work tomorrow afternoon to go see Linda's family.

I'm hoping to get home early enough on Sunday that I'll be able to cut it out and post pictures before the weekend is through. *crosses fingers* :)

you are just trying best as you can, but rest is good for you and the project's quality. I'm very eager to see the update! Very fine details too.

Damn straight! I've been watching this thread for an update for the last week with nary a word or pic posted. Simply unacceptable. But, I'm somewhat appeased... for NOW :D heh heh

Though I am a little dissatisfied you didn't post any pics (n) lol

Believe me, having been doing similar drafting work as you lately, I can relate to what you're talking about. It can be kinda frustrating sometimes, but when it does that's always a good time to take a break and come back to it refreshed.

Indeed. Like you've said to me with my own projects, don't overdo it, buddy. We want you to be well-rested and mentally fit to tackle this and make it a sight to behold ;)

Looking forward to seeing some more WiP PICS *nudge nudge wink wink* in the not-too-far future, my friend. Hope you and Linda have a good weekend! :D

Okay only got the pencil outline done last night so I got up early with Linda (who had a 6am start this morning) to do the outline before I left. :D

Remember how I said I made a couple of mistakes the other night? Well apparently the mistakes started all the way back at scaling the drawing. So the pistol grip is about 1/2'' out from where it should be, but I decided that for what I'm trying to achieve here (size comparisons) this would be fine as the overall size is correct (length, height, pump position etc).

Here you go-

e24154ff.jpg

BOTTOM- The H3 M90A -as per Bungie's dimensions.
MIDDLE- The H3 M90A -reduced by 20% from Bungie's dimensions.
TOP- The M90A BD The Bulldog -A scaled down version of the M90A of my own design scaled off of the 20% reduction.

With any luck I'll be home in time on Sunday to cut it out and do some photo's for reference. But after nine hours of driving Linda and I may also consider a snooze before doing anything else. :)

Nice! Really helps to give a person the idea of the scale involved for each. Even with whatever mistakes you made, just as an outline on plywood these are all looking really good, buddy :)

EDIT: Btw, I'm appeased now. Got to see some new WiP pics, lol.

The Bulldog blueprints are done!

Once again thank you very much to Wizard of Flight for allowing me to modify his drawing. If you'd like to see his great range of UNSC blueprints you can do so here- Wizard of Flight's Blueprints

754ecf84.gif

Please note that I've removed some of the detail that Wizard had and that if anyone wants to build from this they are more than welcome and should do so with a good selection of in-game screen shots (something that is now on the cards for me to do in the near future).
EDIT: I've also changed the OD of the barrel so that if built off of these dimensions it should have be 25mm which is a size we've determined to be suitable for an 8 gauge shotgun (see previous posts).

In other news the cut out of the Bulldog is now done but I won't be able to take pictures until the weekend. I'm also in the process of making the 8 gauge rounds, which have been reduced 20% in length but are still the correct OD for an 8 gauge. I'll post pictures once I have them (hopefully on the weekend as well), and I'll also do up a drawing for people to use if they want to make their own. ;)

I can't wait to see your progress on your build of the bulldog and the shell!

Got the shells started on the weekend but not enough to be posting pictures yet.

As for the Bulldog, we got photo's of the cut out done!

How does the size seem to you guys and gals?

I think that's about it for sizing. Next thing is to start putting together a decnet picture reference package of the M90A. I know there's a few people other than me that could use it. ;)

Hmmm... Looking at the 20% reduction of the original model, it still looks a bit akward. I know I haven't been following this thread as closely as I should, but I'm thinking a possible 5% reduction might be in order. It might seem akward to me simply because you're holding a wood cutout, not an actual shotgun. I've only held and fired 20 guages in my life, never a 12 guage, so I don't know how massive they feel, but I guess it just seems a bit big. The bulldog seems a bit more managable by far. I think it might just be the shrunk barrel, and maybe the shortened action contributing to that appearance.

I'm really loving the proffessional approach you're applying to this project juliet! Seems like this hobby needs a bit more of that kind of thing to push us (as a forum) out of the "hobby" genre, and into more of a "I do this as a side job" sort of thing. ;)

i fount a gun reel close to the H3 shoty hears sum pics

Hey! I actually have a friend who owns that paintball gun. I've heard mixed reviews about it. He had to send it back to the company to get his pump slide fixed, becasue it snapped. He's been using it since that though. He really likes it. It actually does have some nice similarities to the game M90A. But I think it might be a bit too much work to try and modify it to get it perfect.
