Weapon Sizing/scaling

So, you've got your armor fitting perfectly. Now, time to move on to the weapons. But, yet again, it's problem numbero uno all over again; My SMG is bigger than my BR!

Luckily, when it comes to weapons, their length is constant; solving this problem requires no equations. And what I mean by LENGTH is from the tip of the barrel (the muzzle) to the part that touches your shoulder (the stock). The tricky part is finding how long the model actually is. Some of the models are flipped to different planes. Some Pep files have the gun sitting display-style, others have the gun laying on its side, and some have the weapon pointed straight up. So how do you know which value is the HEIGHT, WIDTH, and DEPTH?

It's very simple. When you open up a weapon file, in the lowest right corner of the Pepakura window, below the 2D Pattern Window, there are a set of 3 values. H#, W#, and D#. These are the dimensions of the model currently opened. The biggest value among the three is the current LENGTH (muzzle to stock). Once you locate that field, input the measurements in this chart that correspond to the weapon:

---UNSC---
Assault Rifle- 68 cm
Battle Rifle- 83 cm
Shotgun- 85 cm
Magnum- 23 cm
SMG- 45 cm
Sniper Rifle- 150 cm
Spartan Laser- 100 cm

---Covenant---
Carbine- 85 cm
Plasma Rifle- 50 cm
Plasma Pistol- 25 cm

Keep in mind that you may have to convert to MILLIMETERS if you are using Pepakura 3 (just add a 0 to the end).

I hope I did an alright job explaining this topic, but if anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to answer them!

Just a guick thing, isnt the BR 89.9cm? Isnt the sniper rifle 187.8cm? Isn't the magnum (halo 3) something like 26cm? And also, The SMG is correct I believe, but when its extended isnt it around 62cm?

Also, I believe these are the measurements to how long the rifles are withought there outter barrels? If this is the case, than I believe there all correct. I have personally scailed weapons I have made to the length's above (except the Sniper Rifle, I scailed it down to 165cm) and they all look right.

Also, you mean muzzel to butt stock as in the tip of the barrel to the end of the butt stock? Or are these the measurements to how long the rifles are withought there outter barrels? If this is the case, than I believe there all correct.

I'm not aware of any universal measurements for the Halo 3 Weapons officially released by Bungie or anything. These were the measurements I got. I've made a BR and a Sniper at these sizes, and they've turned out fine. I then sized everything else from those 2.

Yes, muzzle to stock. Because even if you were to not pep the barrel, you would need the body to be proportionate.

Bungie did reliece a few weapon lengths. The lengths can be found on Halopedia here. All weapon specs are on that sight.

For example, here are all of the weapon specs for the BR55HB SR Battle Rifle:

Size Handheld, Two-Handed

Length: 89.9 centimeters or 35.4 inches
Height without scope: 21.2 centimeters or 8.3 inches
Weight: 8.378 lbs

Damage Per Hit Medium Against Shielded Enemies
Medium-High Against Flesh
Overall Damage: Medium To High

Magazine Size 36 rounds

Max Ammo= 3 magazines (108 rounds)

Fire Mode Semi-Automatic (Single shot, 3-round Burst)
Fully Automatic

Operation Short-Stroke Gas-Operated Rotating-Bolt

Rate of Fire Average, 2.4 Bursts per Second, 900 rounds per minute

Accuracy High

Range Medium to Long

the only prolem with useing either of bungies lengths in halo 1 or halo 2 is that with those the gun would be as tall as i am and i have held riffles before and they are not suppose to be that long so that would put it to my eyes or chin

Interesting. I was not aware of that. But still, it's close enough to not even matter. Plus, an ever so slightly smaller weapon isn't a bad idea when you have to carry it around all day.

The S2AM is not a small game hunting rifle, it is a Large .50 cal Anti Material Sniper Rifle designed for prone sniping. But the MC is huge+strong, so he is able to carry it around and use it as a regular Sniper Rifle.

I hear you, Xtreme, and really appreciate the interaction.

Here's how I came up with those measurements. I went into forge with 2 players, and while one stood still, I created and stood weapons beside him (as if he was my height). But I noticed something while doing that. The weapons are different sizes between laying around on the map as opposed to when a Spartan holds them; I would say around 20% smaller when held in-game. Therefore I had the Spartan pick up each weapon and measured from there. I even held a long PVC pipe in position and marked how long each weapon was from my shoulder (I have a 150" projection screen I play on; so it was easy to get him as big as me!)

I successfully made a BR that turned out perfectly, so I'm pretty sure my measurements are OK. Of course, a measurement may be off by 5 or 10 cm to other folks measurements, but like I said, I scale everything to my height; as if I were a over 7 foot tall Spartan.

But, I did add some length to the Sniper just so you or no one else gets nervous. Again, I appreciate the replies.
