Well the anime turns 20 this year soooo... I dunno, they're running out of things to ruin I guess Anime is the next thing :p Though I dunno if they can do better than the writer/artist/director of the books, we'll have to see.

Jadedness aside, if it's done right it could be cool. I have a ton of attachment to this monster animated masterpiece.

Exactly, I really hope they don't destroy our fond memories of Akira, I broke my 'anime teeth' on that film. love it.

Oh and Frost, I know right, that bike is so cool, check out this link for an even better one:

I'v seen vids of that baby being driven.
Sorry I didn't upload pics but I'm at work and can't get into photobucket. :(

It took me watching the film four or five times to finally understand it, lol. I really enjoyed it, though.

As for this making it into a live-action film idea, I don't know how well that sort of adaptation would work. Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

EDIT: And Red, that is one helluva kewl bike! That guy nailed it! Awesome!

They will make up to a headless wife if they screw this up.

Same with the eventual Halo movie.

I hope they don't butcher it. Akira is my favorite movie, I kind of woul hate to see it live-action, but I guess it could be cool if he stick to the story and keep it as real to the Anime as possible.

All I have to really say is...

WHY!?!?

Seriously, if they screw this up I'll boycott Warner Bros FOREVER.

Well...maybe not forever as Warner Bros owns the new Batman movies, but I'll boycott...something...anyone have any ideas?

The greatest thing about Akira was that every frame in that movie was hand drawn, plus it was just a great movie on top of that. It's a part of history in the animated movie realm and I think making it a live action film will just put a dim light on its greatness.

Like Spartan II said it took me a few viewings to fully get it but once I did... ;) (y)
I don't know how well such a complex story will translate into live action, not well I fear.
Horrible visions go through my head of Tom Cruise shouting "TETSUOOOOO!!!!!" o_O
Arrgghh!

Oh and I'm home now, heres a pic of Kaneda's insanely good bike:

Me wants!!

Oh, geez... for the love of Master Chief and all that is HALO (that's my take on "for the love of God and all that is Holy", heh heh), Tom Cruise better not have any part in this! That's an instant kill right there... lol

My thoughts exactly. Akira is a touchstone in hand-drawn animation, and one of my favorites. (I've made it a ritual to watch the film every New Year's.)

Aint It Cool News and JoBlo.com are reporting that the film might be re-purposed for an American audience: Los Angeles rather than Neo-Tokyo, and Leonardo DiCaprio in a lead role. o_O I say balls to this! If you're going to to a live-action Akira, do it right or don't do it at all!

Oh, hell's no. Not happening. Having Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role in an "Americanized" version would be like what they did in the "modernized" version of "Romeo & Juliet" (I'm sorry if there are people here who liked that film, but I hated it).

Just like you don't mess around with a classic the likes of Shakespeare, you also don't do that with one of the well-established milestones in Anime history.

I'd rather get dragged on my back naked through broken glass than have to see that... :cautious:

They need to keep it true to the movie. They shouldn't "Americanize" this movie! Warner Bros. should NOT be doing this. If anyone should do it, it should be the guys who made "Casshern".

Supposedly it's to be set in "New Manhattan" - add Leo to the mix and it becomes a nightmare too horrific to even think about... Please leave this alone...PLEASE...

Americanized?? Leo as Kaneda... but americanize it...New Manhattan?? Stop Destroying New York damn it >:\ That won't even match the Akira story, might as well name it something else!
