Thanks guys- it's actually pretty simple once you get into it. It just looks more complicated than it really is! The hardest part is figuring out the sequence of actions, how to get things to fit in your costume, mechanics, etc.

Great tutorial! Very thorough. Bookmarked for reference.

I have been working on similar things with arduinos recently, including robot hand (See sig for link), what you can achieve with some simple (and not so simple) automation can take a build from 'Meh' to 'Wow!'

Controling LEDs for things like MC's shield charging or ammo counters seems like the way to go these days.
