Another Spartan Among the Ranks (Pic Heavy)

First I would like to say sry for my grammar its horrible I know! lol

OK so I have been lurking for quite a while... have made numerous Pepakura pieces and never finished them. So finding out that my girlfriend is pregnant was motivation for me to make a new project and its fortunately my multi-player spartan from Reach! Finding out about the "new" foam technique was a godsend for me because ive found it much easier and faster than the "older" methods.

And here we go!

(All Opinions are helpful, good or bad)

Also note that these are both the left and right forearms. The left one doesn't have the extra textured black foam piece on top because of the attachment that will be put on there to hold my Iphone.

The Model was made by Ruze789 and was unfolded for foam by L3X BLU3R1V3R

some of the unfold for foam was missing but they where easily made after working around that piece and using paper to make my own templates for them... but all in all it was an easy build and my first time working with foam so i will learn more as I go!

Would also like to note that I don't do my weathering the traditional way with some type of liquid being removed to expose a layer of silver. Basically have developed my own method using a torn piece of cardboard and silver paint. I spray some silver on a tray and run the edge of the cardboard lightly through the small amount of silver paint and then quickly make some passes on the piece I'm working on this causes the paint to be a little thicker around the edges plus creates a scratching effect. then mist quickly with flat black paint and thats pretty much it.

Welcome to the program Spartan! nice start you got there, is that the final paint for the shin?

I'm not quite sure yet.... I would like to add more depth and possibly try my hand at black washing plus I need to add Mud and such effects to it. Seeing as my friends don't have the adequate time to build their own costumes I am forced to build 4 costumes and help with another 2.... I'm a glutton for punishment! With that said I may or may not have the time to add other details to the costume.

Ah i get ya man, so far i have three suits on the go. One for me, one for frightskuller and one for my sis. They at least help with the pep' but i have to do ALL of the resin and bondo myself because they don't wana work with the dirty stuff XD But yeah i know it piles up

i like your work nut I would like to know in where do you buy your Foam from...and is easier then cardstock to put together?

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback!!

I buy my foam from Harbor Freight, Its usually 10$ for 4 piece packs which usually you can get 1-2 piece per sheet of foam. I love this method so much more than the cardstock one. I can usually crank out 1 piece a day finished including paint.

###### UPDATE ######

Well to steer away from the armor for a while I've decided to make a pistol from reach to go with my costume, just so I didn't bore myself with the armor. So here is a couple pictures of the pistol hopefully it is appealing to the eye, keep in mind that this was also made from the EVA foam and foamies!

Opinions

Ok so Ive gotten both shins, both forearms, 1 thigh, 1 shoulder, both handplates, and 1 knee finished and I've ran into a problem while playing around on Vanity I want to change some of the pieces to my armor so I'm asking for opinions which one looks better both are essentially the same with minor changes but which looks better?

My Original Concept:

New Concept:

I like the white, it's unique and the gunmetal color is too common. Your Mag looks great by the way, foam is definetly a different way of making weapons thats for sure

i agree. you want to stick out compared tp the other spartans. the shite is better but i like the knees for for the gray one

Small Update

I have made some "IMPROVEMENTS" to my left forearm by adding my own custom tactical GPS pad. Sorry I do not have a template for it because it was all done on the fly and still isn't totally complete.

Well, Seeing as I still haven't made up my mind I decided to repaint all my armor with Rustoleum bed liner spray as a sealer... just to see what exactly would happen... so far so good. Since I wasn't able to find the plasti dip this was my little idea.

Heres a photo of the can just in case someone wants to know.

I will add some more pictures to this post of all the items resealed and even some of the ones I haven't So check back!

Really nice work on the pistol. I was almost sad to see the paint go on as I loved the colours before, bit like how my hammer was until the inevitable paint stage. These last two pic updates are showing your skills are improving :)

Keep up the good work and I wish you well with the new baby. I have just gone through the same thing. The best part of a new born is they sleep alot so you can get lots of your build done then. Now my boy is 3 months old it's harder to get much done.
Tom.

Well I figured I would do a small "life" update just to let everyone know I am still working on my build and that this thread hasn't died completely. My little girl was born Tuesday July 10th at 10:30AM 6lbs 2oz and 18.5 inches long, and my life has been hectic since then but I wouldn't have it any other way!

My "goal" for this week is to finish the left thigh and cod piece, I have to make a run for more supplies so hopefully I have enough to get all of that done. See you guys soon with an actual update.

Hotdamn! You got some mad foaming skills. Looking really good so far!

As for armor color, I'm a big fan of white (might have something to do with me being a huge star wars fan), I think it would look great with the yellow detailing!

Also...the last picture you posted looks like a sleeping baby to me (with the words "for web viewing only"). It's a...surprising sight in an armor thread :p
