Hello 405th members,
So i signed back in to the 405th in about a month ago after dropping my prop building hobby completely a little after Reach released. I had a busy schedule between school and pursuing mountain bike racing, with little time for video games and building props. Well after being off the bike for 6 months and my recent enlistment in the US Army, I felt the gravitation back to here was only natural. I was lurking around here with ideas in my head, as Halloween was approaching at the time, and I was revisiting the idea of a set of armor as my costume. So after many nights of browsing through threads, I said what the heck, and drove to harbor freight to stock up on EVA foam.
Its pretty amazing to see all the new methods and techniques everyone has been implementing since I last checked in, and I have to say Ive seen some pretty incredible stuff throughout my recent browses. My last builds were all cardboard and good ol' Pepakura. Needless to say this will be my first knock at EVA foam so bare with me, and any tips and advice is greatly appreciated. All armor will be from scratch unless stated otherwise.
Armor will be as follows:
Helmet: Noble
Torso: Interceptor
Shoulders: Air Assault
Forearms: Interceptor
Legs: Undecided
Enough of my babbling, heres what ive been up to!
I picked up a Disguise MC helmet because who can say no to a $35 helmet? the visor alone made that purchase worth it to me! Here she sits after a nice repaint
Reach Magnum made of polystyrene
Here is some progress on the torso, it is the Halo 5 Interceptor, as well are the arms. I went on the Waypoint site and used the Build-Your-Spartan feature to pick out my armor and use as reference
Slapped some black paint on just to have something to wear to a Halloween party. Received some battle damage from the covenants deadly vodka rifles and beer grenades. But all i need to do is add the rest of the details and paint her!
The quickly thrown together lower half so that I had a complete costume lol. It ended up not looking half bad for something i did in a couple hours, but this is not and will not be part of the final suit haha. As you can see the shins didnt feel like staying together too well
Began work on forearms
Open, slide on my arms and close via velcro. Simple and effective!
Started on shoulders as well (H5 Air Assault)
I decided to try and scratch build the Noble helmet out of foam, was curious to see how an EVA helmet would be. Not sure if i wanna keep going with this but we'll see. I am pepping Crimmson's file of the Reach Commando helmet on the side as well, and will modify it to look more like the H5 version. Dutch Props has a beautiful Noble Helmet model that i saw on his facebook page. Might have to pick up one from whoever he is making it for.
Started with visor, since i feel it is one of the more important shapes on the helmet.
Supports to hold shape and stay even (hopefully)
Really wasnt happy with the shape of the front so I will be reworking that
More to come stay tuned!
