I'll take a pep version in sections. You've seen my idea. I think a 2 gig version would be really sweet. I'll be watching this.

Yes and i like it. and i will have two pdo's one for your idea and one for building this thing in tiny mode

if the 2Gb model works right i may do more. I work at bestbuy so i can get my micro sd cards cheap.

Actually you could pep it, just use a bunch of layers, so it won't be hollow, kind of like the detail pieces on FS' helmet.

well i ran into a small snafu. my laptop reset its self back to factory. all of my files are gone. but thankfully i had a version of my data crystal saved online. but i have to re-edit it back to how i had it, so it may be a little while before i have the pdo up and running. Blame Vista

There's your problem right there...hehe

Sorry to hear that, but that's some good fortune you had a back up file.

I never had a problem until it reset.

Glad you had a backup file AFS. Hope it won't take too much to get the backup to where you were before Vista bit you in the butt. I look forward to see this completed. Good luck.

what would be even better is if it had a slide out USB connector and acted like a thumb drive.

Good Luck.

Also if you made a production run i'd be interested.

Well im happy to say that i should have the fully re done chip up today or tomorrow,(i got work tonight and an Air Guard drill tomorrow, so we'll see). but i will be posting the tlither sized pdo and a jpeg of the cut and layer model. both will be a downloadable.

i still have this copy of yours that i played with if you need a copy?

kudos by the way, its a cool little model all i did mostly was
soften the curves and add colour and a duel reflective layer in the
middle

hey AFS looks great...how thick is it? because id take a piece of thin clear plastic, and use a fine sand paper to give it a frosted look. Then take 4 blue 3mm LED's and put em on all four sides and wire it up, so that when you plug it in it lights up the middle ring (four might be too many)
P.S. When you get a chance could you post a few pics of the prototype reader and card because id really like to make something like this

Yeah as soon as i get it into a case that looks decent, right now it looks like a bunch of confusing wires, i will post the pics. but i can discribe the process i used to make it. and yeah four seems a little much having two leds would be pushing the limit.

1. First get a usb sd card reader the cheaper the better cuz your about to void some warrenties.
2. then get a micro sd card the has the sd card adapter.
3. next crack the adapter open and crack the card reader open. make sure you mark which way the card goes in this is very important.
4. next carefully solder one short wire on each or the little connectors. then tape the wires together in the same order they are soldered to the card
5. put the full size sd card in the card reader and plug the card reader into you computer.
6. place the wires on the micro sd card contacts in the same order that they are on the adapter sd card. if you fail to do this properly you run the risk or killing you micro sd card.
7. if you computer notices the micro sd card you made yours properly.

Good LUck

AFS - any progress on getting your backup back to where you were? I'd really like to see how this turns out.

a little but im putting a little more time into this version getting the contacts right and what not before ship it into pep to make it a pdo for you. but for every one else i should have the model that i started making in layers ready soon. depends on if i get out of drill at 3pm or 5pm.

but for now its bed time cuz i have to get up at 0545L

I'll be happy to see any version you finish. You've come further in this than anyone else has. Take your time and make it right.

Sound the Horns :Fanfare plays:

Come one Come all i now present to you a down loadable, build in layers version of my, Data Crystal Chip.

Disclaimer: I AFS am not responsible for people praising you, hurting you, or any such actions that result in or are related to you make this model. Please build responsibly.

i suggest about 6-8 layers of just the whole thing before you start adding the details. that and i would also cut the center out first.

If i get the time i will fix this file so its easier but as for now have fun.
PS: PIC IS DOWNLOAD LINK

well im looking for a place to see if i can get my proto cnc'd some were. i may try and see if i could get the school to do it. if they can then im about 3 steps from getting a working proto with leds and memory card and card reader.

Rapid prototype would be faster and easier than CNC for such a small piece. You could also do multiples in one run. Does your school have access to one of those?
