Hi all. After watching the Ironman movie, I decided I wanted to build an ironman helmet, since i didn't have time to build a whole suit. I deside to use foam because I have quite a lot of it for my upcoming reach build, and i thought it would be good to practice building something out of it. I'll probably never wear this thing out in public and it will most likely just sit on my shelf, so I'm not going for prefect accuracy with it.

this is how it looked yesterday:

30 minutes later, it looked like this:

then like this:

heres how it looks on me. I scaled it at 260mm, but i think it a little too big. And yes, I'm a girl.

some of the detail on the jaw:

and now this is what i did today. I added some foamies on the top, but i think it might have made it worse.

Now, at this point, i watered down some pva glue and brushed it on, then let it dry, then spray painted it red. Bad idea. I definitely should have just waited and bought plastidip. The glue made a less-than-smooth surface.

gotta try it on:

i also realised its lopsided down at the jaw part. oh well.

Thats all for now. More to come soon.

Hey the Iron Man helmet is complicated as is, let alone with foam. Takes real guts to attempt a foam helmet build, so props to you.

Hazel it looks great, I have messed alot with foam before... now I am determined to make my own.

A helpful hint if I can give you one, would be using thinner foam (bends easier) and if you want... get Super thin craft foam and simply use the same pepakura patterns you have created and cut them out again to hide some of the "lines" where you glued bigger pieces together. --- LilTyrant is a pro at this hiding lines with craft foam. I'm just now getting into it alittle.

Anyways Great JOB!!! Truly is! ---coming from -Nogood-

Helpful pictures with helpful words are SO NICE :)

-OKAY foam builds are alittle different than Pepakura paper builds * Every time you see a fold/score dotted line you must cut out each piece because foam doesn't make 45 degree angles, or 90 degree sharp corners... This is the only way you can do it without cutting out each line...

See the lines where my arm is suppose to bend or have a corner... I keep it in one piece so I wouldn't have so many lines...

Hopefully this picture speaks for me since Im rambling so badly ....

I simply did that by cutting a V shape on the underside of the foam.. added hot glue and pressed it together to make it bend.

Hopefully this hint will help you on the future progress! (REMEMBER I have thinner foam) Might not work as well with the foam you have... I have used it before :)

Thanks Vidofnir and Nogood. Update: I got the helmet finished. I was to cheap to buy plastidip, but i found that acrylic paint works pretty well at sealing foam. My friend Sam, TripleXLax on the forums, wore it to the Amazing Arizona Comic Con on friday the 25th. Enjoy!

After the con, i re-painted the face part of the helmet a more acurrate gold.
