In-Engine Armor References [Source Film Maker]

Is source film maker a tool that can let me get really odd angles and screenshots of the actual Halo models...

Yes. Definitely.

Very much definitely.

I have two questions, one could you possibly get me some decent photos of a Halo Cryopod, be it Wars, Halo 1 or Halo 4, and also, could you get a detail shot of the Re-entry pack if it's possible of either available

I think there's a Halo 4 Cryo Pod somewhere out there. At worst we would have to port it over from Garry's Mod, but still. As far as the Re-Entry pack....I'll have to do a little digging on that one. So far neither that or the Cryo pod are in my inventory, but I know at least the pod is out there (Halo 4 I think)

I only have one question.

Where have you guys been?! Sheesh! Keep us waiting this long...
Honestly? I've been doing this since about 2015, so I've been around it's just that it wasn't until Noble (Jonah) hit me up with a request for some in-depth references and suggested I make it a more ongoing thing that I decided to finally dust off my account here. I had kinda dipped outta making any new cosplays, content to keep reparing my budget ODST as time goes on until it finally fell apart, and focused more on writing and SFM artwork so the thought just didn't really occur to me. But honestly, after Outpost Chicago, having met a whole bunch of the 405th, I realized I was kinda missing out on quite a lot of the community. I'm here to help however.

Hello everyone! my name is Troy and I go by Slim Charles, Dimi on other platforms. I make 3D art in SFM also, Mike has definetly been a big inspiration to me and he's encouraged me to post some of my Halo work that you guys might find useful.

Shout out to this guy who's saying I'm an inspiration when I'm the one who's been trying to emulate his style for ages with little success.
Can't stop, won't stop.

Well i appreciate it, reason i ask on the cryopod is cause i have the urge to build a full sizei-ish one to put into my trailer i'm designing for the con tours, need some place to sleep.

Ha! Well Make sure you scale it up a little bit, make sure you can actually reach the release handle.

So a little bit of something different really fast for those that are working on a Halo 4/5 build or anyone that wants to work on a form fitting base layer. One of the contacts by WTS had asked me for references a long time ago of the Halo 4 techsuit, which is a bit more rigid and Crysis like, but the far superior Halo 5 model is in my hands so that's what I'm going to be posting here as reference material.

These first previews are just to show off the base look and to provide reference for some of the coloring points on the model. I know a lot of people like to have a black undersuit, and I agree. It looks better on every Spartan build to have a black layer, but the option to color it is there, and these are the locations that come with the base model.

Alright, try to maintain a level of maturity here. I know that I used these models a lot for certain....fanart...but we're focusing on details.

Excellent work thus far on all of these model requests/image dumps, Rookie425. I have a file saved from work you sent me I am going to make available right here.

This has quite a few hard to see areas of the ODST as well as the additional pouches added to the armor. This file is saved as a zip due to size and ease of download. Enjoy!

I wish I had thise shots of the H5 undersuit when I was making my kit  Great thread!

Any chance we could get a similar dump with the Halo 3 Marine like you did for Reach?

Worry not, Spidermonkey60! I not only just sent you one but am dumping a set here for everyone to use!

A little off topic, but you have any advice for possibly exporting a model from source into a more regular format like .obj or .stl? I have a model I want try and make some pep files for but the only accurate model I can find is for Source.

Also the images you have taken of the Reach armor is great.

Thank you so much! I worked hard to try and capture what I believed any builder would need in terms of references. Though secondary colors were impossible to make happen, unfortunately.

In terms of your question though, I actually ended up watching a few videos on that process to get me here! The gist of what you have to do is utilize Blender, extract the GMOD files and get them in there, then detach the specific part from the model you want for pep, and export as an OBJ. That way you can upload the OBJ into Pep and unfold it, and voila!

And to help more here is the video I ended up using to learn this process, though there also may be better videos available!
